hi - we are going on a road trip this weekend and we want to stay in cloth diapers (rather than switching to disposable for the trip). what do i need to bring with us (other than diapers, covers and wipes)? we are pretty new to cloth diapering and haven't used them when traveling yet. thanks for any help!

Have fun on your trip! We did this a month ago.

1st, do you have enough dipes to get you through the whole trip, or will you need to make a laundry run?

I had enough to get me through, thank goodness, though it required packing every diaper I own, even the flats I used to use as burp cloths.

2nd, you'll need a good waterproof laundry bag. It should fold flat to pack, can hang over a chair or be handy when you're using it, and tie or zip up tightly for the trip home so you don't stink up your car. I was unsure of the waterproofing on mine, so I put it inside a garbage bag.

3rd, see if you can keep it open as much as possible while you're there, to let the dipes air out. We still had some stinky problems in our room, so every day I'd toss in a washcloth with a couple drops of TTO. But you could use any essential oil you'd like.

Good luck!

We've done it all with those crinkly plastic shopping bags... double them and start a fresh bag whenever you do laundry. It's easy to travel with cloth if you are going to a place with a washer and dryer! Have a great trip!

I have a large wetbag that I use for travel, otherwise I don't really do anything different. We travel by minivan all the time.

Upon reflection, I will say that I avoid wool covers because of car seat wicking, and we use micro lined pockets more because changes are more infrequent when we are sightseeing or whatever.

We just came back from a week long trip with two cloth diaperlings, 14hr drive one way. We brought nearly every diaper we have, and both babes wore wool nearly the whole time (toddler wore a few AIOs). We've camped in cloth many times, it takes something quite drastic for us to buy a paper diaper.

We keep a small pail with a lid that closes tightly in the van (we keep an old cat food pail just for this purpose). A spritz bottle full of water for wetting wipes. Receiving blankets for throwing over van seats for changing dipes, keeps the breastfed poop from getting on the van seats.

If I was only going to be gone for a one nighter, I wouldn't bother washing til we're home. On longer trips we wash whenever we have the chance 'cause we tend to move around alot and don't know when the next chance will be lol
