Granted, baby isn't due till Dec., so we have a while to think about it!

DH and I have a queen sized platform bed, that is 24 inches from the top of the mattress to the floor. DH is really good at woodworking, so I was thinking that he could build a "stand" for a crib sized mattress that would snug up against my side of the bed in such a way that there is almost no gap between the two mattresses and puts the top of the crib sized mattress directly level with our mattress. The crib sized mattress, then, would be sandwiched firmly between our bed and the wall.

DH could also build a "footboard" for the crib sized mattress. The problem, though, is naps once the baby is old enough to roll around, because we aren't planning on buying a crib. He could also build a bedrail for my side of the bed that we could put there when I don't sleep with the baby during naps, that would close the gap between the foot of crib sized mattress and the foot of our mattress on the shared lateral side. But that would still leave the foot of the bed, and DH's side of the bed, open...

Any thoughts or suggestions?
