I am 19 weeks and finally found a midwife to hire. <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/banana.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="banana"> My first appt is next week at 20 weeks!!!!!!<img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/lol.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="lol"> People think I'm crazy, but if you think about how I was considering a UC, it's no biggie! Hee Hee!!!! I really like her and her back up and the student midwife is a chiropractor and I really like her too! Woohoo! Being a HBA2C it's great to have support I feel good about!

Good for you! I saw my OB for the first time at 6wks. I have blood pressure problems and he wanted to see me sooner than later.

I went to the doctor at 4 weeks for a pee stick test, then I had my first appointment at 6 weeks. But, I'm with Kaiser, and they ask that you get into their system ASAP.

I put myself on a waiting list at 5 weeks and got a midwife spot around 10weeks. First appointment at 13 weeks ( I think) and next one, in 2 weeks. I will see her every month, closer to birth every two weeks (also house calls, I believe) and then, at the end, every week. I also saw my family physician two weeks ago for a basic physical and had the usual blood tests done and some (have not had a physical in about 5 years).<br><br>
However, midwives are paid by our province's general health care system, so they do not cost me anything extra. And - you cannot have both an ob and midwife.

I was going to my OB before this pregnancy with my miscarraige.. So I guess he was hired from 5 weeks when I found out I was PG.<br><br>
I switched to a midwife about 28 weeks.

I shopped around and picked out a midwife 18 months before conception. I called her at 4 weeks with the news and she saw me the first time at 5 weeks.

My first appointment with this care provider team was at 6 weeks...I knew the receptionist from my last pregnancy and she just popped me into the first opening on the schedule. Normally they see mamas starting at 8 weeks.<br><br>
My last time round I saw my family practice doctor for pregnancy specific care starting around 8 weeks.

I am trying to hire one now and I am 25 weeks. I have an OB though and she won't see you until you are 8 weeks.

I was 25 weeks when I finally settled on someone. I had had a couple of appointments with practicioners who didn't work out, though.

Yup. I knew for sure that I wanted to hire my midwife, so I called her as soon as I definitely knew I was pg. She said the month of November was already filling up, so I'm glad I called then!

I was seeing an OB from about 10 weeks, but I switched to a CNM at27 weeks or so. Guess I was lucky she had room for me!

I called at 4.5 weeks, saw her at 7 weeks. Honestly, I don't think I needed to see her for quite a few more weeks since we're not doing much medically BUT I couldn't wait <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/redface.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="Embarrassment"><br><br>
It's good for my anxiety to know she's around and has my folder and my name in her phone. She answers the phone with "Hell-ooo Gina" if ever I call, so it feels good. This is my first homebirth and the first time I am not going through a ringer of medical tests and what-not.

Oh! I should add that they sound busy as the other day there were two in labor and when you're with her, the phone is always ringing... and yet there was no problem seeing her and she's never alluded to being busy. Maybe the month hadn't filled up yet since I called early.<br><br>
There are a few midwives sharing an area practice so I will be with Paula the main midwife I hired, and an assisting one as well. There are (I think) two others that work with them too.

I started looking around really early -- we don't have any hb midwives here, so I knew I'd have to look at the major cities that are 3h away. I wanted to find someone who I was comfortable with, and also who was comfortable with the distance. So I got hooked up with my mw (she's on here too <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/love.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="love">) around 4w, but because of the distance I didn't make it to the city til 11w. And when I get down there again I'll be like 20w. But after that I've promised to go more frequently. It's my fourth kid, I feel great, and I feel like I know the routine now.

with my first pregnancy, I didn't know I was pregnant until... probably the end of 2 months, nearing 3 (very busy stressful time in my life). Then we were in denial and freaking out, then I had to wait to get medicaid, so I didn't see a midwife until a little after 20 weeks either.<br><br>
This pregnancy I was on the ball, I knew... probably a week or 2 after the missed period, I saw my midwife last month I was estimated at around 12 or 13 weeks then.

Awesome! Seems like I'm not the only one who waited. With my first and second I wanted to be seen right away...I couldn't wait either! This time though, I just wanted to be left alone and take it really laid back. I also had a hard time finding someone I really wanted b/c of having 2 prior c/s. Lots of midwives wouldn't see me (I did call around before conceiving).
