Hello all. I am currently 42 weeks and 1 day waiting for my HBAC. DS1 was born c/s at 41 +6 because I was "overdue." MW did an NST at 42 and baby passed with flying colors. I am getting a lot of pressure to "just go have the surgery" which I am not at all considering unless necessary. I would just like to hear some other mommas that went this far or further and everything was fine. Just need a little confidence boost right now. THANKS! FYI MW is coming back at 42 + 4 then 43 and would be back every day after that if I choose to continue.

My longest 3 were 41wks, but my mother went 44 wks and her doctor sent her home from her prenatal! She warned him she thought it was her time, but she wasn't giving any indicators so he sent her home with plans to induce the following week if she hadn't delivered by then. Anyway, she had the baby 4 hrs later and she was less than 7 lbs at a month overdue. No weight loss, my moms babies just tended to be a little smaller. My first year apprenticing we saw several moms that went 43 weeks with no complications whatsoever. In his book, Dr. Bradley swears he had a mom go a full 12mths. She was doing fertility treatments, so they are quite sure of when she conceived and her baby also ended being less than 7 lbs. Not saying I recommend going 44 or more weeks (certainly not 52!) but some people either have really long cycles, or just cook their babies longer.

I went to 42 wks 2 days with my youngest(I chart so my dd was accurate). He was perfectly healthy, weighed 8lbs 2oz and it was a HBA2C. I think I'm just one of those women that have long pregnancies and I'm glad I waited. I had some outside family that worried and wanted me to give up too.

I've gone to 44 weeks past lmp with two babies. I have longer irregular cycles though, so I don't really know how long they were actually in there. The last one looked about 39 weeks gestationally when she was born.

My shortest pregnancy was my first and my only boy - he was born at 40+5 after a 36 hour labor.

The other two girls were around 42.

I am fine with my babies cooking a long time. The only thing that bothers me is the comments from other people, even people who seem to be more naturally minded and I get a little tired of people believing there is actually something wrong just because I don't wish to give them a run down of my menstrual cycles and explain the birds and the bees to them. Next time I am not telling anyone, including my husband, when I am due.

It is wonderful that you have a supportive midwife!

A woman I used to work with had two children who she swears were 11 month pregnancies. She birthed in the sixties, so less paranoia about longer pregnancies, I think. She also has slow metabolism issues, so I've always wondered if her body was just slower in cooking babies as well as everything else.

I had my first DD at 43+1 weeks - she was absolutely fine. I think longer gestations run in the family though, since my mom was induced at 42 weeks with both me and my brother, and her mom had a VBAC at 46 weeks back in the 50s..

I've also heard that slower metabolisms can lead to longer gestations - I have a slow metabolism, low (normal) blood pressure and low basal body temperature, so might well be true.

I went 2 days over for my 1st hbac. My second went 42+3 days. He came at home on hi own time. I wish you patience. It is vey hard to wait.
It's especially hard to wait when you have people harping on you about being overdue. Who are these rude ass people telling you to just go get the surgery anyhow??
My advice...stop answering the phone.
This time around we lied to my ILs about my due date.

Well I went into labor at 42w+5 days and after a lot of work at home and no progression after 7cm my MW, DH, and I made the HARD decision to transfer to the hospital. My son was swimming in old Mec and he needed to be put on the ventilator after he was born. He was in the NICU for 4 days but made a VERY fast recovery. The nurse didnt think that he actually aspirated Mec or he would've been much sicker in her opinion. Everyone at the hospital was amazing and no judgment about me being post dates. I mourn the loss of my home birth but am so glad that my baby boy is here and absolutely healthy. When they did the c/s they noticed I had something called a "band" around my uterus. Apparently my uterus was holding DS in place and would not let him drop. Never heard of it before.

I'm sorry you did not get your HBAC and that your baby had to stay in the nicu. I'm glad everyone was nice to you at the hospital and that your baby is healthy now. Congratulations on your new baby boy!
