....I'm in week 18 and have gained 11 lbs.
How is everyone else gaining? What's considered "too fast"?

Thanks!-Mel.

I've only gained about 5 lbs. so far and I'm 17 weeks. But I'm nursing a toddler and I think that has me holding back on the weight gain. I *think* that normal weight gain is about 5 lbs. during the first trimester and about a pound a week for the rest of the pregnancy. But I'm not quoting that from a book - just off the top of my head.
Yes, that's what I'm reading too....5 lbs during the 1st trimester. 11 lbs seems fast and much faster than my 1st preg. I hope I don't gain this way the whole way through.
I have no excuse really...I have a 5 yr old to chase after now. I don't feel that I'm eating much more than usual. Hmmm.
i've lost about ten pounds but i've been pretty sick AND i've been eating healthier, so i attribute it to that. i'm still in a normal weight range though and baby is growing well, which is ultimately the only thing that matters. at this point in my last pregnancy, i was up 15 pounds and had no problems.
Let's see I was 40 lbs overwieght to begin with and I've gained 9 lbs in the past 18 weeks. That is pretty good for me considering I had gained 20 lbs with my son by this time with his pregnancy.

I really think your body knows how much gain or lose or maintain as long as you are active and eating well. I don't think there is a wrong answer.
I've gain 3 lbs I don't gain to much weight neither I did in my last pregnancy but I always get pretty seek the first 2 weeks

I'm 15 weeks and my scale says I gained almost 5 lbs, but I swear it's more! It's gotta be because it sure looks like a ton more! My last pregnancy I gained so much in my 1st trimester
: by the 38th week I had gained over 45 lbs! I'm not doing that again!

I've gained 10 pounds and am 18 weeks. It seems like a lot to me, too. But (excuse alert!!!!) we went on vacation at the end of July and since I got over the m/s, I've been eating anything I want --- until about 3 days ago. I have gotten back to my normal diet, no soda, no fried foods, no junk food. I've also increased my workouts. I hope that slows my weight gain down.
Eeek! I've gained 11lbs so far, that's 1/2 of what I gained my entire pregnancy the first time around! Of course I did just spend a whole month home in Hawai'i, eating everything in sight. I more than made up for the month prior when I felt too blah to eat.
I've gained about 4 pounds, but that's after loosing more than 10 during the first trimester. That 4 pounds was all between my 12 & 16 week checkups. I'm almost 17 weeks. I gained about 40 total with DD & expect it will be about the same or a little less this time.

According to my OB, who was unhappy with my weight gain so far, your 11 pounds is perfect. 5 pounds in the first 12 weeks and a pound a week after that. You are right on.

I, OTOH, apparently am not. I'm 19 weeks today. In the last 5 weeks I gained 3.5 pounds, plus the 4 I had gained earlier, so I'm up a total of 7-8 pounds.

I kept a log last pregnancy because I was tired of being fussed at over weight, which I think is fine as long as I'm gaining. So far I have gained exactly the same amount at the same rate as last time. At about 30 weeks I picked up steam and gained a total of 25 pounds.
I don't own a scale.
And I haven't been to any appointments yet....

but in the bieginning when I got hives I went into a drs office, and weighed 168, and I visited a birthing center yesterday (at +/- 17 weeks) and weigh 175...

so 7 pounds so far...

I gained 40 with ds, but was fit and skinny then...it's been awhile since those 2 words applied.

I like not owning a scale. It's not like I would do anything diferently...I'm eating as well as I can, and excercising as much as I'm able.
I only wiegh myslef at the dr.s and gained 5 lbs so far... but I am going next week and we'll see if I have gained anymore.

Last time I was -5lbs at 12 wks and + 10lbs at 20wk ... with a total of 40lbs at 39wks

I'm 18 1/2 weeks and I've gained about 12! I checked my chart from last pg, though, and found that by 19 weeks I had gained 20!!! So I feel okay about 12. Granted, last pg, I gained over 60 lbs, but most of that was water weight from mid-pg swelling! I was back down to my pre-pg weight in six months, and my body is none the worse for the wear. (Except that my stomach never did get *quite* back to normal! But I was overweight at the start of my mama career, so normal is nothing to brag about anyway!)

You don't want to know
I'm 16w5d and I've gained about 15 lbs, I think. I keep avoiding the scale. I started at 143, and a couple weeks ago I was up to about 160. I guess that's 17 lbs, huh?

I KNOW it's because I started eating like crap once I found out I was preg. I was trying to lose weight when I found out, so when I found out I was preg, I was like, "Hell, yeah! I'm pregnant! I can eat whatever I want! It's expected of me! And the baby needs extra cals, besides...." Let's just say I've been eating a lot of Mac and Cheese. (It's a good source of calcium, right?)

Ok, my scale isn't the greatest but I have apparently gained 1 pound and I am 16 weeks.

I have been eating regularly and well, by that I mean high protein and healthy foods. Though I could use more greens, which I am not really into right now.

Before pregnancy I was overweight by 40 pounds! I had a knee injury and some depression (prob partially because of lack of exercise) and my exorcize shamefully ceased.

Now, I am eating much better and have been trying to exorcize, though the period of sickness did not help the exercise effort much.

Forget the books, you are so individual. My belly is getting bigger and I have not had a significant weight gain while still eating well. It is very telling of how indulgent my diet was before pregnancy.

If you are thin, underweight to start with, you should help yourself to gain more than the 'recommended', if you are overweight for YOUR body than you would expect to gain less. Only you yourself can know how well you are taking care of yourself (more proteins, less fats...but some, whole grains, few few sugars, veggies n fruits), you can't compare yourself to someone else. And I think exercise is vital to health (even though it is hard sometimes!), it is SO important. That is how you should measure yourself, and be fair, do the best you can, no one is perfect... you can't have perfection, just moderation.

I mean who doesn't love a dessert sometimes!! I for one am victim to homemade baked goods and ice cream! I just try to limit it to when I go out.

I'm 18 weeks and have gained 7 pounds. I really feel like it is more though. The past couple of weeks the quantity of food I need to eat has significantly increased. I know the baby is having a growth spurt, so I guess I am too. I have my next MW appt. at the end of the month and I'll be 21 weeks then. We'll see how much I've gained then!
I am 17 weeks and have only gained 2 pounds besides the almost 10 I lost...

THe midwife told me to start eating more.... I say whatever! I was still carrying the weight from the last pregnancy!
I am 16 weeks and I have gained 7 lbs. I think I gained 22 total last time, so it seems like I am right on track with what my body and this baby needs!

Woohoo! I hear ya girl... I felt so crappy this first tirmester I ate more nonorganic and "convenience food" than I have in years. I am coming out of my slump though. I am 17 weeks and have gained 8 pounds (3rd baby)
I feel like I am doing OK.
