all I need is a quick answer--DH decided to give DD banana (even though we decided even if she wasn't for sure reacting to it--she was constipated from it)--since she's been reacting to some accidental dairy/or gluten from my milk (he thought he would coutnreact it)--SOOO about 2 hrs later--she pooed and had the WORST rash I've ever seen so far--owie! could banana come through that quick or do I need to be looking for something else?
Well if she was reacting to some gluten or dairy in your diet, then it could have been that and not the banana, or the banana along with the other two. I think you're going to have to wait until a baseline to test again. Inconclusive. Sorry.
but is it possible- (has anyone seen it in their child) to poo out food that quickly or physiologically does it take longer to get through the intestines, etc?!!
I know--I was so stupid==we had been doing SOOOO good--we celebrated easter with my hubbies fam and I just make our food seperate--there must have been x-con problems--I "thought" I was so careful!. i know/assume there was a problem because my son is suffering terribly and he ate all the same food as me.
I say impossible... I know I posted about this before in response to somebody, but DS tried beets (a pretty big amount for him - like 7-8 bites), and was complaining and in pain in about an hour and thereafter for a few hours. 4 (or maybe 5? - I'd have to search for my post to verify) hours later he pooped straight beets.
It seems like it would be pretty darn near impossible to move through the intestinal tract so quickly. IF it did, it would have produced some intense pain, I would think, AND it would probably still look pretty much like banana. Not enough time to digest normally. And digested banana in many infants looks like little black worms.

sorry, how old is she? That would really affect whether or not it came through that quickly. Not age, per se, so much as size and length of intestine. In a child younger than six months, it's entirely possible, in an ten yo, maybe not so much. My son, when 12 mo would get a diaper rash in less than an hour after having wheat, so I'd buy it.
I'm even older
, I'm lactose intolerant, and if I have milk, I do have diarrhea within half an hour, so i would buy the idea that if she was reacting to banana, she could have a reaction in that amount of time...even if she's not passing banana itself.
My dad has had transit times that fast, without pain. He took a new medication (with an uniquely shaped pill) and it made its way out about 2 hours later. I handle most of his medical issues so I brought this up with a few of his different doctors. They dubbed it, "normal." And they wonder why he's deficient in B-12 and iron?
:
Anyhow, I think that it is entirely possible that it could have been caused by a banana reaction.
It can happen that fast, if she is allergic or it just doesn't sit well then the body will move it out asap. I have a milk intolerance and well...Just trust me on that one.
she's 10 months old...well thanks you've given me stuff to think about--obviously she shouldn't have banana anyways- (isn't that weird thought to counteract diarhea of a reaction with one that constipates you? (or is it normal)--well intentioned hubby--her bum is SOOOO bad today--dang it--I don't want to start over---this is not a good time for her to get so bad either--I'm trying to feed her more of her foods she's okay with to get her to not lose weight.
DS reacted to bananas when we first tried them. I wasn't sure at first, but he had a poopy diaper only 2 or 3 hours later with streaks of blood. The actual banana though didnt' pass until about 6 hours after eating it. Being unsure about the blood I kept feeding it to him and he continued to react.
Yep it can happen that fast. Especially when dd is reacting to something else already. We've seen blueberries and beets go through her in less than an hour. Although now that she is typically not reacting to something things have slowed down a lot, thank goodness.
thanks--I'm torn because--maybe it's the lasting soy or dairy from LAST weekend (or gluten)--- or it could be the steamed carrots or maybe the type of avacados i got (still organic)-or maybe she doesn't like applesauce I made (she's been having cut up raw apples)--I'm torn because I am in this predicament where she has lost 1 1/2 lbs- been trying to feed her more and she' scrying all day from her bum bleeding--yet I gotta get her to gain weight so it's not exactly the most opportune time to pull the onlly three foods that she's done okay with at this time..ya know?!! AH
allergies are so emotional--I am so emotionally tied to this--today my son found his dad's hidden easter candy and by the time I found him he had eaten a tiny snickers (i am in tears thinking about it)--has EGG and dairy (no gluten thankfully)--but he's not even done reacting to last weekend at gmas house--and I know he feels crappy (I gave him benadryl)---anyways I know this is off topic and that probably nobody will read this--but just think this is so hard! which is more important for my dd? do I stop letting my son see gmas and travel? (I try so hard to be careful) I am ready to BAN anything not allergen free from my hubby in this hosue since ds found dad's bread hiddne on the top shelf and almost got some and now his "hidden" candy!- how does he find the 2 things that are hidden and he can't have?!! ah=
okay I'm done--I'll just have to trial banana again in a couple months--
