My dd is around 20 months and has wanted to be totally naked all summer. It was basically going okay because I could tell when she needed to pee and would just put a diaper on her so she could go. We do have a little potty for her, but she's only ever used it once. Sure, I've cleaned up a good number of spills on the floor and couch.

For the past couple of days, however, she yells and fights against diapers, yet I haven't had to clean up anything. Last night I finally figured out that she's been going outside to pee in the water-filled storage container we keep on the balcony for her to play with. (We never got around to buying a kiddie pool.) Gross, right? I change the water twice a day and I realize that kids pee in the tub and everything, but it's still kinda yucky.

On the other hand, being nine months pregnant I'm kind of liking not having to change diapers and clean up messes.
:

We've never pushed potty learning at all and I honestly wouldn't mind her staying in diapers for a while just because it's easier. But I'm kind of at a loss. I can't imagine what it will be like when the weather cools down and I start keeping clothes on her again. I'm considering buying a more comfortable potty, putting it outside next to her water container and encouraging her to use that instead. Then there's the other part of me that thinks, "ehh.... urine is sterile, what's the big deal?"

Any insights or suggestions? Or just "ewwwww"s?

I have no experience in this area, but it sounds to me like she totally potty-trained herself! She just chose a different potty than you had in mind. Maybe if you can figure out what she likes about peeing in the water fileld storage container that she doesn't like about the potty, you can figure out a place for her to pee that she doesn't go swimming in. Maybe you just get her two storage containers, she seems smart enough to be able to pick one for each activity.

But either way, although "gross" I don't think that swimming in a little of her own urine is a big deal as long as water is changed often.

What a great way to look at it! That completely makes sense and makes me feel a lot better about it, too!

She actually squats down and sits in the container for the most part. Maybe it's just the comfort of sitting in water?

I've offered to let her sit on the big toilet, but she wasn't keen on the idea at all. Of course, it didn't have a kid's seat on it. I'll add that to my list of things to try.

Sounds like you have a good plan there. I really think kids and babies do want to be pottied. some are just better conveying the message. BTW...I don't think it's soop gross either...if it was poop than yeah gross but alittle pee in the water isn't so terrible.

Oooh good idea. I can try that right away. Thanks!

I guess when the weather gets cooler, we can just move it into the living room!
