How important do you think organic diapers are?

802 Views 21 Replies 12 Participants Last post by  susieinms
I have been using Fuzzi Bunz on my babies since birth and I LOVE them. But I have been wondering lately if the bleached fleece and PUL could be bad for them. They never get rashes or anything but it is not a super natural material on their bums all day. I do use Allen's Naturally detergent. Do they make organic diapers other than prefolds? Does anyone only use organic dipes, if so which ones, why did you choose this, etc? Thanks!

i dont use all organic dipes. i however, have some that are all organic that are not PF. they are hemp and wool
Do you have a link for those dipes? How do you like them?
First of all, I would like to say that I think the most important thing is to use cloth diapers rather than disposables. That said, it is very important to me that all of my diapers be organic cotton and all of my covers be organic wool (I do keep PUL AIOs - with organic cotton inners - in the diaper bag for convenience) for environmental reasons as well as for the sake of my baby's sensitive skin.

They TOTALLY make organic diapers other than prefolds! Here is a PARTIAL list!

Wonderful! Thank you! That list is very long-do you have some you personally would recommend? Do they keep baby dry? Do they leak? This is all new territory for me as I have mostly just been a FB girl.
There are a lot that I could personally recommend. Lately I've been recommending one that may not even be on the list yet:

I haven't had any problems with leaking.

I think to some people all organic is important. its really just a personal choice. Any cloth is better than none!
What covers do you recommend? We briefly used fitted dipes with wool covers with first ds but dh did not like the wool covers because they leaked and got fuzzy and snagged when ds crawled around the floor.

Great thread! Organic fibers are very important to me and I try to buy them whenever possible. There are alot of great WAHM that make organic diapers. Here are some articles that helped me decide on organic & natural fibers:

Great info! Thanks everyone. I have a lot of reading and shopping around to do. I had no idea there were so many options in organic dipes. I appreciate hearing what organic diapering system everyone is using because I am overwhelmed with the choices. Be back again tomorrow....Yikes or today, it is so late here.

I just wanted to add that I have found organic diapers to generally be more absorbant than non-organic.
I have been transitioning to all organic diapers and wool covers. I really really love our Firefly fitteds www.fireflydiapers.com because they dry quickly and are really trim and comfy looking for my dd. They work great with a Firefly Easywool cover, or any knitted wool. The Sleeptights work really well for us at night.
I am also really liking our one Full Moon Baby Gear organic velour fitted. This feels soo soft and comfy and is really absorbant and stretchy. I think the velour makes for a drier feeling, happier baby. I use it with knitted wool.

Anyone know where to get cheaper organic fitteds???....I can't afford $20 a diaper....
I just got an organic one-size diaper from www.mother-ease.com and I LOVE it. SO soft, so squishy, and very reasonably priced

I am looking for cheaper dipes, too, since they all seem to require a cover. I haven't gone through the whole list yet, but these are only $12: http://www.underthenile.com/underthe...m_detail99.htm

I have been using organic cloth fitted diapers from http://www.sunflowerderrieres.com/ They are great, and very reasonable!
What covers do you use with the ftteds? Do they keep baby's skin dry?
My general feeling is that, while organic cotton farming is much better for the environment than non-organic cotton farming, there probably isn't much difference in the performance of the finished product. I would guess that most of the toxins in non-organic diapers will wash out with all the prewashing- once you've washed the diapers a dozen times the difference on your baby's skin is probably minimal.
