I am just starting out on ehow and suite etc... and was wondering for you vets how long did it take to get a steady income stream. Plus, how has it grown as you've continued to write?

I know some of us are unable to say exactly how much we're making, but if you could give me a ballpark that would be great.

I'm wondering if it is really worth it. Especially as I am reading about how people are stealing ehow articles and stealing ad clicks and ehow has been slow to respond.

I don't write for ehow, so I can't answer to that.

I will admit to being a big rule follower, so I don't feel comfortable posting publicly exact amounts of my earnings since it goes against the contract we signed, but I am ok with giving you a ball park.

I am a Feature Writer, earning the 20% bonus. I have 80 articles published, and have been writing for Suite since December 2007. I know, I am slow compared to many others. I track my earnings and I have figured that I earn about $25 per article per year. Going on my second year, most of my articles are on track to earn that much (if not a little more) this year. However, I tend to focus on evergreen articles rather than timely ones. I can't wait until I hit the 100 mark and reach the bonus cap.

For me the benefits of writing at Suite go far beyond the financial ones. People who embrace the resources and constructive criticism available to them will undoubtedly become excellent web-writers. Suite has been a great stepping stone for me that has led me to even more financially productive writing endeavors.

Thank you for the reply. I am working on my first Suite Article. I just sent in my writing sample to Textbroker and I've already written several items for Demand Studios and have had no rewrite requests so I feel like I'm on the way up with the learning curve.

Anyone else??? Also if people want to pm me their content link, I'd love to read what everyone has been writing as I am still learning about SEO.

Thanks!

Hi Violet- I started with Suite in December of 2007- it took me over a year to hit 100 articles. I started with eHow in Nov 2008 and hit 100 articles in Feb 2009. Between the two of them I'll get over $600 next month (earned this month) and most of that is from Suite101.

PLUS- in my ehow articles, I have affiliate links in the resources, and links to my Suite101 articles, blog posts, etc so there's no way to tell for sure what the exact impact of those articles is. I did sell a computer on amazon, so the commission on that was nice

I write for DS, too. I am amazed that you don't have rewrites. I seem to get them constantly for the most nitpicky things. One editor actually added a step and then told me it needed editing (which it did) Another sent back a rewrite to ask me a question about a picture, another wanted me to include a link to somewhere the readers could buy the product (as if the ultimate goal for ds/ehow isn't ad revenue?)

A few rewrites have actually been helpful suggestions to reword something complicated or rearrange steps or something, but most of the time I think the editors are on crack.

Last summer I was writing for DS full time, and making a fortune, I gave up when I got burned out and wished I were "investing" my time. If only I had been writing as many for eHow or Suite as I was for DS. There's something psychological about the flat rate that makes me write more aggressively. It's self sabotage, I know it.

Thanks Lisa! I really need to focus on Suite 101 then. I have been doing what I think is decent SEO. Made a whopping 46 cents with ad revenue this week.
Oh well, it's only been a few days. I guess I should be patient.

I like DS b/c the paycheck is guaranteed. I just billed $70 today and have another $35 waiting to be written.

I should say I did have one rewrite request but it was a formatting issue not a writing issue. I had to reorder a bit and it was fine.

I dont know how many articles you have written, but in the beginning I was defintiely like that. Sometimes, the revenue was lik $0.02 a day. Once I hit 20 articles, things started to crank up.

Have you looked into being an FW as well? That added bonus helps too.

Yes, I am looking at FW BUT first to get up and running. There is so much to do.

And I jinxed myself. Got a nasty CE on DS with a rewrite. I'm thinking of complaining as the editor clearly did not read my article and their tone is not cool.
