DS is in a regent. I'm not sure of his seated height to the shoulder, but he is on the second from the top harness slot (I just moved it up recently, he's about a half inch above the second). He was 42 inches, but I think he's taller than that now. He's 3 years, 1 month. I want to get him a nautilus for an extra carseat for grandparent's cars, but I want to make sure it will give him a good bit longer harnessed. If it will give him a year and a half, I feel confident that he will be mature enough for a belt positioning booster for short trips by that point.

My nautilus has a harness height of 18 1/4". So if you measure his torso sitting that will give you an idea of how much room is left. On average, a child that age grows 1" in torso height per year.

My 7.5 yr old still fits fine with the straps. He rarely uses it though, he just had to try it out when his brother, who is almost 5, got his. We use the 5 point belt system.

My 7 yr old was 48 inches last fall, so he might be an inch or 2 taller now. So I would say you have plenty of time.
