I have a pint of whey I just found in the back of my fridge, and I happen to remember that it is from the end of July, so about 7 weeks old. Is it still okay to use in cooking/ferments/etc? Whey is a preservative, so it should keep for a while, right?

I didn't know whey actually expired? I have mine in the fridge since I returned from my vacation over a month ago. But again, my whey never last over 6 months because I use it a lot.
