Hi Ladies,

For all of you that have done IVF before. How many little embies did you transfer?

I just want to get an idea of what to do for our upcoming cycle. After speaking to our doc yesterday he said 1 was best and 2 at most but how do they know? I really just want 3 to be transferred; I just think my odds are better.

Thanks to all who respond. This is such uncharted territory for us I want to make sure I am making the best possible decision.

Cheers

Hi booja's mom! Good luck on your cycle!

Both cycles we transferred 3. The first time we did a 3-day transfer and the second we did PGD and a 5-day transfer.

First cycle I was 37, second I was 38. After 2 laps/hysts, 1 septum resection, and 1 polypectomy, we're officially "unexplained".

Unfortunately, neither cycle worked...

Hi Booja's Mom, I was 35 when I went through my 1st IVF cycle. We got 11 eggs, 8 fertilized, 4 made it to 3 day transfer and we transfered all 4. DH was very nervous about that. We got BFP and have a precious 2 yo DD.

Now I'm 38, just went through my 2nd IVF cycle. I had 11 follicles but RE was only able to get to 1 egg. Thankfully it fertilized, we transfered the embryo on day 3 and I am currently in the 2ww. My RE would have transfered up to 3.

Good Luck on your cycle!

I'm 34 and just starting out with our first IVF to be done in August - and our doc is saying that we will have 2 max with our first because we have a good chance of it working and our age. 35 and older and moms who IVF didn't work they will use more.
Best of luck to you!!!
My re does a max of 2.

From what I understand, more than two at once does not really increase your chances as much as you would think.

I just found an article about a study I remember saying that your chances when transferring one are not much different than with two:

http://www.news-medical.net/?id=6616

Mom2mich is right, more than two doesn't increase your chances significantly, but it hugely increases you chances of having multiples if you get pregnant.

We did one fresh on the actual IVF cycle and it didn't take. We then did two frozen and neither took. Then we did three frozen and one took, which is why we call her Super Mega Voltron Baby.

My second DS was concieved w/ IVF. I was 30, we transferred 2 embies, and we got one beautiful baby boy.
As for the number to transfer, I only had 2 embies, so we just tranferred both./

With my first ivf cycle we transfered 3, although at my age at the time 2 was the max. My three were not in great shape which is why they did transfered 3. We ended up pregnant with triplets but lost 2 of them before week 12. With our fet we transfered 3 again, I'm not sure why they did three when we had two great looking ones, but we ended up with twins. We did another fet last year around this time but although we had heartbeats we lost all before week 11.

We first did 3 iui's. With my first 3 IVF's at the local clinic we transferred 3, 4, and 4. We said we'd give it one last shot at a top clinic so we went to CCRM, did PGD and transferred the only 2 normal blasts. Now pregnant with twins. Good luck!!!!!

I did 3 IVF's and 1 FET with my own eggs with no success at all.
IVF #4 we used Donor eggs

IVF #1 - 3, day 3 embryos
IVF #2 - 3, day 3 embryos
IVF #3 - 4, day 3 embryos
FET #1 - 1, day 5 embryo

IVF #4 - 2, day 5 blasts resulting in our b/g twins.

One peice of advice that I always remember is when someone told me not to transfer more then you are willing to carry. I have known people that have gotten pregnant from the poorest, crappiest looking embryos you ever saw, and I know people that haven't gotten pregnant from the top grade perfect blasts.

I was 35 for first ivf cycle, we retrieved 16 eggs, 13 fertilized, transfered 2 and we have 16 m.o. twins. 2 was the STRONGLY suggested amount and we went with that. good luck!!!
