This may not be an easy question to answer, but about how many pounds do you have to lose in order to lose about an inch of weight off your hips?<br><br>

Anyway, the top fits, but the hips are tight. The dress can be taken out about an inch, but I think I might need 2 inches for it to fit right. I'm at my winter weight now of 145 and I usually weigh 137ish thru the summer (its an August wedding). I'm just curious how much I might have to lose in order for it to fit. I'm all for losing some and looking better, but if its going to take 15-20 lbs, thats not going to be healthy for me and maybe I'd better just order the other dress in a larger size. What would you do?<br><br>

I'm not sure if there is a good answer to this or not. Depending on what you're doing for exercise, you may gain muscle - which weighs more than fat.

Well, actually, a pound of muscle weighs the same as a pound of fat.

This doesn't exactly answer your question, but it is my understanding that 8lbs = 1 US dress size. For example, if you want to go from size 14 to size 12 you need to lose 8lbs.

Thanks! 8 lbs I can do, I just hope its enough!<br><br>
Does anyone keep track of inches and weight? I'd love some personal experience feedback!

ROTFLMAO. I'm sure she meant a pound of muscle takes up way less room than a pound of fat. Funny.

For me it's 12lbs..but I'm kind of tall and I think it has to do with my shape.

Hi, theres a couple of exercises which will lose you inches- noooo weight, if any you'll weigh more.<br>
These are easy, wont take time and def results. They are called heavyhands -invented by a doc.<br><br>
Here goes -<br>
First - weights, smallest you can find.<br>
I found 2lb at walmart but if you find lesser, thats great<br><br><b>Hips, lovehandles, thighs</b><br><br>
Stand with feet as wide apart as can be comfy, weights in both hands, hanging down. Lean forward slightly so weight is off back<br><br>
Take your left hand, towards the right knee (right knee bent, left straightened), rotate the left foot for best results - weight is conc on right foot.<br><br>
Right hand towards left knee<br><br>
Start with 10 counts<br><br>
Do it s-l-o-w-l-y for 20-30 times for 1 week and call me if you dont see results <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/wink1.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="wink1"><br><br>
If anyone likes, I can post a few more exercise I swear by.

So how many inches do you have to lose to drop a size?<br>
Because Ive lost inches but no weight.<br>
And if you are gaining muscle whilst losing fat - and staying at the same weight but measuring thinner...surely that will count more than just losing weight? lol

IME you could go down maybe one size without losing any weight, but not more than that. I lost a bunch of weight a few years ago and it was about 10 lbs=1 dress size for me. I have toned up some since then and I can *maybe* wear the next size down, but I would need to lose some more actual poundage to go down one more. Hope that makes sense! To the OP, maybe get it in a bigger size and have it altered? Then it would fit you exactly, and you could get alterations up to the ceremony. <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/smile.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="smile"> I did that post-partum with my daughter when I was in a wedding and it really helped bc I was two sizes bigger on top bc of nursing boobs.
