How many newborn covers to use with prefolds?

I really should know the answer to this... I think my first 1,000 posts were here on the diapering forum
but I used fitteds with my first two babes. I'll be starting out with preemie prefolds and I've bought several XS Rikki and Airflow covers to use in addition to a couple of the wool soakers I have. So... how many covers do I need? Are prefolds more likely to allow leaks into the cover so that I need more covers?

Thanks!

I would say 6-8. If you will be trifolding the preemie prefolds into rikki wraps poo will probably get on the cover most of the time. I loved the x-small rikki's with preemie prefolds, they also fit over a infant prefold snappied or pinned, just more bulk, but if you did that some of the time you wouldn't go thru so many covers.

Thanks mamas! That's what I needed to know.
I haven't bought any good pins yet so we'll likely just be trifolding.

We had four and got along fine. In a pinch we could dip into the size small stash I had.

Poos are often, but they're small and a snappi'd prefold mostly contained them.
