Anyone got any insight into how childbirth is at Hackensack hospital? My SIL is prego and plans on delivering there with Dr. Robert Gallo.<br><br>
I am in Colorado and don't know anything about either but want to up her chances of a good birth. Anything we should be aware of?<br><br>
Any other ob recommendations? Or better yet, CNM recommendations?

I don't know about Hackensack, but if she lives close to there she could look into the Pascack Valley Hospital which is only up in Westwood and has a midwife center.<br><br><a href="http://www.childbirthcenter.org/cbc/cbctour.asp" target="_blank">http://www.childbirthcenter.org/cbc/cbctour.asp</a><br><br>
I saw an episode of Baby Story where they gave birth there and it looked nice, although I wouldn't use it since the head midwife does circumcisions [just my personal opinion though].<br><br>

My cousin had her baby at Hackensack and was quite happy, but that was over a decade ago. I know that there is some concern b/c they have a very high c-section rate there. However it is hard to tell if that is mostly b/c they take on more high risk pregnancies than other hospitals.<br><br>
I've heard good things about Pascack Vallry Hospital too.

Pascack Valley and Mountainside are two of the most mother-child friendly hospitals in Northern NJ.

My SIL had both of her babies there, both C-Sections. She didn't have any complaints. But we were treated really bad by their staff. Just as we were leaving a baby alarm went off. The staff threw us up against the wall and forced us to stay there for a long time. Even after they found the alarm in a pile of laundry that was being wheeled out at the same time we were leaving, they forced us to stand there in the hall for about 45 minutes. They wouldn't let us go back into SIL's room or leave the hospital. I would never go there just because of that.<br><br>

I had a HORRIBLE experience at Hackensack. I ended up with a c-section and so did 8 out of 10 women on my floor who were all planning for natural births. My friend just gave birth there and had a similar experience. There was no reason for my c-section and I was scared into it (the other mothers who were on my floor had similar stories) I was a week late and they said the baby was in distress and the best thing was to do a c-section or else I would be harming my baby. THey play upon your most vulnerable moment and scare you that you are making the wrong decision if you don't comply. It was a very clean, beautful hospital, but that is where it ends. I f anyone wants to have a "mommy" and "baby" friendly birth experience, I would run not walk out of that hospital.<br><br>
I have heard many wonderful things about Pascack Valley. I know they just finished a new maternity ward and it's supposed to be wonderful.<br><br>

I second (or third or fourth?) the bad opinions of Hackensack and also recommend Pascack Valley.<br>
Unless she'll go for a hb, then there are many more options....<br><br>
Hackensack tries to sell itself as a beautiful hospital with massage therapists who visit the rooms, etc, it's a bunch of bull......<br><br>
Lonnie of Pascack Valley does do C but she's one of the best choices around here.......<br><br>

Awesome. We're doing great with BN over here and are having fun. We currently have 27 professional members! It takes some time to get going but don't get discouraged.<br><br>
