I was wondering, when you pump, if you do, is it always the same amount? I don't pump often, mostly because I am afraid DD will wake us right after and I will have no BM for her! When I do pump, sometimes I get 3 - 4 ounces per side, sometimes, less than an ounce! Is this normal???

Getting different amounts is normal...especially if you're only pumping "now and then" and don't have a regular schedule. <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/smile.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="smile"> If you want to build up your milk bank you might pick a regular time each day when you know your dd wont be hungry and pump then...It can take a few weeks, but given time your body will naturally produce more milk in response to that pumping session. (some women pump a half hour or so after a feeding to prevent the "hungry baby" situation, though even if you've just pupmed your babe will still be able to get some milk when nursing)<br><br>
Also other things, like your menstrual cycle (if that's returned) or the time of day can also affect how much milk you're making at a specific time. So getting different amounts at different pumping sessions isn't uncommon.<br><br>
For me, I usually get 4-6 ounces of milk during a 15 minute pumping session. Sometimes more, sometimes less, but usually around there.

I'm a SAHM with 2mo dd.<br>
No bottles yet, but just want an emergency supply.<br>
I've been pumping most mornings 1hr after 1st feeding.<br>
This is when my supply is greatest.<br>
After 2wks, I can usually get 3oz per side.

I just went back to work last week and have to pump 2x a shift-most times I've been getting 2-3 oz side, but yesterday and today I got 4oz on one side and 3 on the other...all in about 10 mins...itwas very weird towatch those bottles fill up so quickly! Anyway,it seems like it totally depends on the day, time, what I've ingested,my mood,etc.
