Hi there,
I went to my herbalist yesterday and got some supplements and one of them has Vitamin A, (in the form of beta carotene). I am also taking vitamin A in my prenatal (5,000) IU. I keep seeing forms of vitamin A posted differently (ug or mg). can someone tell me how many IU's is safe while pregnant? Is it different when it is in the form of beta carotene?
Thanks,
Elle

I *just* did a paper in vit A for school! LOL i think 8000 in the most non-synthetic for is recommended in pregnancy (beta carotene is a non-synthetic food source of vit A)....but remember your diet...if you eat things like liver it can add 3x the amount of vit A to your total intake. other high vit A sources are purple veggies (cabbage), turnip greens, orange veggies (pumpkin, carrots), shrimp, eggs....

does your herbalist know how much vit a is in your prenatal?

make sure your midwife/ob knows all you are taking too...
