my daughter is exclusively breastfed, will be 8 months old next week and just recently discovered the joys of cold water in a sippy cup. how much water is ok to give her in a day? she actually is drinking some--spitting some. i only fill the cup up to the bottom fourth--do you think that would be an ok amount for her to have 2-3 times a day if she wanted? i dont want her to fill up with water and not nurse...

I give ds as much water as he wants (usually only about an ounce or two a day), in my experience this doesn't interfere with his desire to nurse. He was enamored with water at first, then like all else new, it got old. Now he just likes the water out of my bottles mostly, I have to be very suggestive about the sippy in order for him to drink out of it

It's a great thing to get your child used to drinking!! My son prefers water most of the time, though he does love OJ and apple juice. Usually when we go out to eat, he asks for water.
A few ounces a day is no big deal at this age.
