I have never been one to gain a lot of weight while pregnant. So that's why I was wondering how much weight anyone else has gained if you don't mind me asking. I typically have like 5lb babies and would like them at least 6lbs or more. I have not gained any weight in two months, but only gained 4lbs this pregnancy. Is there an appetite stimulant that can be taken during pregnancy? I usually gained at least 15-20lbs though. This go-round with #5 though I have gallstones and having to watch what I eat...fatty, spicey, greasy etc. Dairy products and anything spicey really is a problem for me it seems. On top of that is the constant heartburn that no amount of Tums can help with...if I take 4, it works maybe 20mins. :

I go back to the doctor this week and kinda dread it since I haven't gained anymore weight since last time. I know the doc said 4 weeks ago that if I didn't gain at least another 4lbs by my next appt we needed to discuss alternatives...but what would that be while being on a restricted diet? ARRRGGHHH

Can you up the carbs in your diet?? Like add some nice whole grain ietolls or something?? Do you have any idea at this point what your calorie intake is?? Also were you average weight pre preg?? Maybe you could give an idea of your typical daily diet and people could expand from there.

As PP mentioned a lot depends on your pre-pregnancy weight and your height/body type. I gained about 24 lbs with my first pregnancy and am a little behind with this pregnancy. DD was 8 days late and 6lbs 8 ozs. With this pregnancy I wasn't doing great for weight gain and I added some hemp protein smoothies to my diet. They really do put on the weight. I can't handle much dairy so I use the hemp- 2 scoops with one cup of Almond milk or soy milk, half or a whole banana, 1 T flax oil (omit if you think it would bother you), and then I add frozen berries/fruit. You just whip that all up in your blender and it really is yummy.

As for the heartburn - have you tried papaya enzyme tablets? I tend to get really bad heartburn and this helps out a lot.

I'm up 21.5lbs (all in my BUTT!!!). But I'm a gainer during pregnancy.

I honestly don't see what the issue is if you and baby are both healthy. If not, that's another story, but every woman's body deals with pregnancy differently.

This is my first pregnancy, so I didn't know what to expect, but I've not been much of a gainer, either. Just in the past week or so (I'm at... 22.5 weeks?), I've finally started gaining. Today I'm up 9 pounds over my pre-pregnancy weight, but that weight was low for me! In fact, right now, even up 9 pounds, I weigh just about what I weighed this time last year. I'm of average-skinny build.

I went for 2+ months without gaining anything. I was more worried than my midwife was, though. She was like, "enjoy it while you can." I'm not having the same food issues you are, though (though come to think of it, I have cut back on dairy because it started to make my tummy kind of upset). Good luck! If you are eating when you are hungry and eating mostly healthy food, getting protein and veggies and maybe a prenatal vitamin, then try not to let your doctor scare you too much. I've had luck with papaya enzyme as well, but don't know if it works any better than Tums.

Ah, to be a low-weight gainer! My OB would love you guys. I've gained 18 pounds (23 if you include the 5 I lost and then regained after I found out I was preg) so far and I got a bit of a lecture on Friday. I fantasize about having one of those tight trim preggie bellies that I can flash with pizazz but not for me. I've got a nice layer of jiggle on top (or rather, sagging below )
But, as previously stated, who really cares as long as everyone is healthy?

I'm going to try those papaya enzymes!

I started at about 100 pounds..... now almost 26 weeks... I am up to 141.. oops

I guess that I am on the other end of the spectrum as you... I feel that I am gaining to much.... but as another pp has said... no worries as long as everyone is healthy!

With my ds I gained a total of 35 pounds, but mostly in the last couple of months.

I'm average weight, a little heavier than I was with my DS. I put on 30 lbs with my DS and he weighed 8.3. I just hit the 24 week mark and I have put on 11 lbs. I tend to be a very steady weight gainer. With both pregnancies I didn't gain anything my first trimester. I am actually hoping that I put on a little less this time, since I started out about 8-10 lbs heavier.

I have known people of normal starting weight put on as little as 20 and as much as 70 and have totally normal pregnancy/babies/and after baby weight loss. As long as you are getting in all the nutrients your body needs, keeping it healthy, I think you are fine.

My baby that I gained the most with was my smallest (gained 40 she was 6lbs 4oz). With my last I gained the least and he was the biggest. (gained 24 he was 8lbs 2oz) I am 24 weeks and have gained 16 pounds which is just about right for me. I don't usually gain a ton in the last trimester because it is hard to get in enough food with a squished belly. I have plenty of reserves (need to lose about 85 pounds after this pregnancy) so I never worry about gaining much in the last trimester. My babies always grow plenty and my body changes shape. I don't understand getting a lecture for gaining 18 pounds. Jeez! For the OP are there any type of fats that are better than others or is it just all fatty food? I don't know much about gallbladder issues. I was thinking that if good fats worked better maybe adding flax oil to things, lots of avocados, coconut oil and things like that might help you put on some weight.
I am trying to remeber a weight gain lecture. In one pregnancy I gained over 100 lb (lots of water, the edema and bp were both bad). In anther I only gained 17 lbs. Nobody has ever brought it up with me unless I have asked about it. Like a pp mentioned, baby's size has not really correlated to my gain.

Lactivist had a good idea regarding good fats. Perhaps if you increased them just a bit too see how it affected you that might help. Carbs can be good source of calories but protein will help with energy and (baby) growth I would think. I guess that is no help as I just suggested you eat more in a very round about way.

it is so refreshing to see other moms with high weight gaines thus far...

I have gained about 23 lbs so far, yeaaaaah nice

Which will put me near the 40 lb mark for this pg...o well, not my highest so thats good.

As far as appetite stimulant goes, not that I can htink of, but my suggestion is to hit the carbs on a more frequent basis ( even if they are less than healthy ones...such as, maybe a big scoop of apple cobbler eveyr other night, or 3 times a week with a scoop of low fat ice cream...)

or higher protien. You can get protien shakes that you can add anything too and if you use skim milk thye are lower in fat, but still very nutriotious and filling.

With my other two pregnacies I would have gained at least 20lb by now(26 weeks) but I have only gained 2. My midwife was not concended as long as I was eating and eating healthly. I really don't need to gain the weight so I am not trying to do anything differnt.

I'm 25 weeks, and I've gained about 16lbs so far. This is my first pregnancy, so I don't really know what to expect. I've just been doing my thing...swimming and eating healthy. Can't ask for much more than that, right?

I've gained 16 pounds so far. I didn't start gaining until 10-12 weeks but caught up since then. I was considered "overweight" by my previous doctor at 5'1" and 147lbs pre-pregnancy and was lectured constantly, but my midwife has yet to say anything about my weight so I really don't think its that big of an issue. I'm looking to gain another 10lbs or so.

I've gained about 25 lbs I think. Which seems like a lot to me. I did not gain this much so quickly last time. Well actually I gained alot both first trimesters but last time I evened out and continued to gain slowely. This one seems to be a very steady increase.

So far I'm up 8lbs.. Per last weigh in. I go back to the OB on Mon 6/4, so it's probably more..

With my 1st pregnancy, at this point (24wks) I think I was over 25lbs already. I ended up gaining 45 w/ DS1, and this DS2 seems to be about the same size, but I'm not really showing it, besides a huge belly.

With my last pg I gained 60lbs and had a 9lbs baby.

I have been eating much healthier this time around though and started out 10lbs heavier although I am normal weight. I have gained a total of 14lbs as of today at 23 weeks. I have put most of that on in the last 6 weeks though. I gained 6lbs last month and have put on another 4lbs this month so far.

At my last week appointment I have gained 3.5 at 23 weeks. My OB is fine with the small gain. I started out overweight and am more then padded... My OB said as long as I am not actively trying to restrict my diet and am eating healthy then all is okay. I just eat when I am hungry and am trying to up my protein...as I know I am not getting enough.
