My DS (1 yr.) was recently diagnosed as mildly anemic. (A questionable diagnosis, but making sure he gets sufficient iron is a good idea nonetheless...)

He eats kale and spinach every day, and lentils & black beans almost every day and I am working on getting him to accept blackstrap molasses, too. I've been giving him kiwi and small amounts of tomato and strawberry along with the iron foods, but I'm not sure how much he needs. If he eats a whole lot of any of the vitamin C foods he gets a terrible diaper rash-- which I'm assuming is because of the acid content. If he eats 1/4 of a kiwi or a small slice of tomato he doesn't have this reaction, but I wonder if that is enough to ensure that his body absorbs the iron.

I can't think of any vitamin C foods that aren't acidic... :

TIA for any help!
