How much yarn for toddler soaker shorts?

567 Views 5 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  wawoof
I want to buy some yarn to knit soaker shorts for my toddler, with the following approx measurements:

Waist: 20"
Hips: 24"
Rise: 20"
Inseam: 2"

Any idea how many yards of yarn I need? Would 1 skein of any yarn do the trick? I just don't want to order too little and then run out....

Thanks!

My daughter's used one skein of cascade 220, barely. You might need just a tad bit more-maybe if you have some already, you can use it for the waist, then just buy one skein for the rest??

I have a hard time figuring how much i need!! What kind of yarn are you wanting to use. you'll for sure have enough if you buy fishermans!!
Not sure what kind of yarn I'll use yet. I'm thinking I'll use a skein acrylic yarn that I have, because DS is such a rough and tumble boy, and I can machine wash acrylic.

Here are the details:

Red Heart Kids Yarn-Crayon Ombre
100% acrylic. 4 ounces (113 grams) 242 yards

And my skein is a little short because I started knitting something, had to undo it, and got the end tangled. So I have maybe 200 yards...

Thanks for your advice!

Unless you have a coordinating yarn for the waist and cuffs, I would go with at least 6 oz. I have knit some close to that size recently and one 4 oz skien was just barely enough for the shorts themselves and then I need to bust into the second skien for my drawstring.

Definitely pick up another skien, or a coordinating yarn then.
