I'm sure that we are not among the most hardcore EC'ers here, because we miss all the time! I was surprised to read that some EC babies have only had a handful of poopy diapers EVER. Wow! I'm impressed. We did EC with our dd starting at 6 months, and she never had a solid poo in a diaper, so I do understand as they get older. But starting out with a newborn with the bf poops, its hard to catch EVERY one. At least for me.

We miss a lot. My DD was one of those babies who almost never pooped in a diaper, once we started EC at 2 months. But she was a really infrequent pooper starting at about 3 weeks, and that helped. DS is 3 1/2 months now, and I miss most of his poops. He pooped all the time as a newborn, so I could never catch them all. Then he started pooping less often, and I started missing every single one! He's developed this habit of pooping while he's in his bouncy seat (and while I'm in the shower or something and can't watch for signals.)

it really depends on the day.. some days none.. some a lot.. i think it has to do with how much is going on and how well we are feeling and if we are at home VS out and about. if we are at home with not many clothes on her and we are close and can hear/see her cues then i catch nearly all of her pees but otherwise we have been having a few misses.. if we are out and bundled up and i cant pee her then i just tell her to pee in her diaper ( which she doesnt like much..) she doesnt miss for poops much but she is starting to hold them a lot better..i wont even think she needs to poop then i pee her and she poops. i cant wait for summer and days when she doesnt have to wear 3 layers of clothes to stay warm and she can crawl around on the grass and pee to her hearts content

Well, lately we miss almost 100%, as he's now refusing to sit on the potty. He is just starting to walk now so I don't know if that's related. Until the last week or two, we would catch several pees a day. I can't even remember the last time I caught a poo.

we miss between 0-8 times a day. Some days are just off, and others are really on! Mostly it's between 2-4 times a day. Any catches are better than none. I find that on the really off days it helps me to focus on the catches rather than the misses. If we weren't doing EC at all the they would ALL be misses, so it's no big deal if we miss almost all some days because that's still just ALMOST all

Poopy diapers - now we have maybe one every couple weeks (and it's only part of one ever because as soon as we know she's doing it we get her to a potty or sink ASAP). At first when dd was a newborn we didn't worry about catching them. I would just make the cuing noise as she went in her prefold diaper and I would put a new one under her right away. I would keep wiping her and moving the diaper to a clean spot as she pooped. I didn't start holding her over something other than a diaper till she was 5-6 weeks old. At 7 weeks was when it really "synced" and we started catching a lot.

love and peace.

our miss rate in review ....

0-6 months 90% [we werent ec'ing but dd peed in the tub when given the chance]

6-8 months 90% [we were ec'ing but with about the same miss rate!]

8-9 months 50 %

10-14 months 1 or 2 / day

15 months - pause (stopped counting)

16-18 months 1-2 / week

19-22 months 1-2 / month

after that there may have been a miss once in 3 months or so. dd is 33 months now. she still announces when she needs to do but she can go and sit on her own. she still expects to be read to while on the toilet, esp in the mornings and i am wondering if she isn't getting enough undivided attention that she has become so attached to this

We have a lot of misses, some days are much better than others, but even on a good day I have about 6 misses.

For pees, some days we have almost no misses, and some days it seems like I can't catch anything! Mostly I'd say we average around 75% - higher when at home and my attention is focused on DS, lower if we're around lots of other people and I don't catch his signals (or he's so engrossed in what's going on that he doesn't seem to signal at all.)

As for poops - DS has only had maybe 6 poopy diapers since we started ECing at 10 weeks (he's 7.5 mo now.) Right before we started EC DS had started holding poops for several days before having a blowout dipe, so I think he was very relieved when he figured out he could use the potty for poops, and now even with introducing solids, he is a pretty regular once-a-day-in-the-morning pooper. I've had a few non-dipe poopy misses though - mostly when I thought he was finished going and he really wasn't, and one especially memorable bouncy-seat nakey-butt blowout while I was in the shower that was just gross! (What is it with those bouncy seats???)
