How old is too old...

for just wearing a diaper in public? My ds is 14 mos and dh thinks it would be absurd to bring him out in just a diaper and t-shirt. I disagree, am I being silly? This hasn't even been an issue yet, we live in MI and ds needs pants right now...

BAH!!

My dd is 27 months and frequently wears just a diaper ... it's not warm enough yet but I can see myself taking her out in just a diaper and soaker when it heats up.

I think it depends on what YOU feel comfortable with (by you I mean both you and your dh).

Hi KyleAnn

Welcome to the CD'ing board and MDC! I noticed you're in Michigan. What part? I'm in Clinton Township which is in SE MI.

Anyway, I don't think it would be absurd at all for your ds to wear a diaper and t-shirt in public. Especially if it's a cute diaper! What better way to be a cloth advocate? If dh is really against it, maybe you should try out some soaker shorts.

For me I gauge it on how old I think a baby should be on average when potty trained. I would never expect a 14 month old to be potty trained.. over 3 and I'd cover up though, kwim?
If it's a sposie then definetly out of the question! :LOL

But a babe is never too old to show off his or her cloth! Everytime it's warm my DS is out in just a dipe and a t-shirt. A soaker is a great idea for something that might be less offensive to DH though.

**Edited my typo after getting picked on about it!!! I swear my DH does not wear diapers... even cute ones.**

Hi and welcome!!

Personally, I don't care what age... I will let Hunter out in a diaper and T-shirt with no problem (we did it yesterday in fact and he is 21 mo). I wasn't fully potty trained till I was 3.5 and my mom let me out and about in a cloth diaper.
Ok, This is JUST me BUT If I see a kid in a sposie running around at the mall, it flippin irks me! Now cloth is a different story though! I dont know the age limit as Ive never seen a kid walking around in cloth period so I cant say, when it gets unnecessary! Now, a diaper and a soaker shorts or something, I see no problem period, and if your just running around outside or at a park in CLOTH, no biggie, I just think it looks silly if you take ur kid grocery shopping in a diaper, lol, but like I said, I think cloth is a different picture!

ETS: It was a tad harsh, I was halfway trying to make a joke and it came out way NOT funny!
Not too old at all! Maxi is 18 months and we go out in diaper & soaker with a tee all the time. If we are just going to a friends house we even skip the shirt and just go for the diaper!

Oh and WELCOME!
To me it really depends... If I saw a kid of any age wearing a sposie or not so cute cloth dipe out in public with just a shirt, then I would think *put some clothes on your naked kid!* Cute cloth or a soaker would be fine.
Pietey is almost 3 and still in dipes. Now and again he will play in our yard in just a cloth dipe or when we walk to the creek and he gets wet, I let him strip down to his dipe for the walk home (he wears FBs for the day time.) We don't go to stores or anything like this, am I a bad mama? Aubrey is 12m and she's always in a soaker and t shirt now....
I take my 22 month ds to the grocery store in his matching tye dye t shirt and prefold from CPC-I think he looks great-I couldn't care less what anybody else thinks LOL-of course, I have had tons of comments on how adorable he is in the set
"what a beautiful boy in a beautiful outfit", "isn't that the most precious outfit?" and just today-"I have never seen a tye dyed diaper-how CUTE"

Hmmmm, I think your husband is definitely too old to be out in just a dipe and t-shirt!

if it is warm, ds (22 mos) frequently wears just a fitted or a fitted with his soakers over it. i dont really care what others think... other people think a lot of absurd things- make strange judgements based on what they see when they look at us.

i wear as little clothing as possible when it is warm. i extend the same opportunity to my babe.

i must say i am a little shocked by your post, lindsayloo2020.

Well my son is over two and I have on occasion taken him out in just a soaker or whatever. Now if he is just in the front yard or whatever, he rarely wears anything more then a diaper and a shirt.

Im Sorry, I re-read it and realized I sounded harsh. I wasnt trying to put down people who dont have money as Im prolly just as poor as they are! I guess it just surprises me when I go outside and see a kid in a sposie and thats it, especially when its in the winter! Here in AZ, if I saw a kid in a cloth diaper and shirt, it wouldnt faze me as its flippin 115 outside and I wish I could be in my underwear walking around too. I just reallt hate when I see people have their kids in the mall, dirty as heck, with only a diaper on walking barefoot in the mall. I feel awful for the child!

I truly am sorry! It did sound very harsh and I didnt mean it at all!

no worries mama-personally, I hate to see a kid in a sposie no matter what :0, it just intensifies the disgust when they are all dirty and have matted hair/gooey eyes etc YUCK

p.s. I have never seen a cd'd baby in the above condition..........of course, I don't see many around here that are cd'd ??
Yup I'm a dork, but nope, I can't bring myself to let my toddler out in public in just a diaper (even my cutest covers
). For me the age cut off is when they are too big to fit in a bucket style carseat.

I'd be happy so see someone else's toddler wearing cloth, I just can't do it myself, lol.

Camden is 15 months old and I take him out in a diaper and wool soaker or Fleece diaper cover shorts/pants all the time! Most of the time people are like, OH cute shorts! LOL! They are amazed when I tell them it is a cloth diaper!

My sone is always just in his diaper. I figure....I spend enough money on them, I may as well show them off!
