DS is 3.5 and he hasn't been yet.
His ped gave us a referral for a local ped dentist when he was 2. I called to make an appointment but they told me that I wouldn't be allowed to accompany DS into the room so I told them to forget it. I started asking around and I spoke to a lot of his former patients who are now teens or grown and all I got were horror stories about how mean they were and one girl even told me that one of the nurses slapped her on her leg. o_O

I know there are probably other dentists, just haven't called around...

I was curious too. My ds is 3.5 and hasn't been yet. I've been thinking we should take him but he won't even open his mouth for the ped to look at his throat. I can't imagine he would even hold still for the dentist. Do you think we should be concerned about not taking him?

I take mine at about age 3. They always accompany me to the dentist though, so they're not scared. They usually sit on my lap a couple times before "their" actual appointment (at my 6 month cleanings) and the hygeinist looks in their mouth and "counts" their teeth, to get them used to it. Our dentist is very good though (small operation - 1 dentist, 2 hygeinists).

15 MONTHS and it went really really well. He basically just looked at the teeth and said to come back when he's two (everything looked fine). He said he usually has to lecture people about giving their children endless bottles of juice etc. but was pleasently surprised to hear ds has never had a bottle in his life and the only juice he's had is a little tiny bit watered waaay down and in an open cup!

Abigail just had her first official dental and cleaning at our dentist about 6 weeks ago. She is 3.5 years old. She came to my last two exams and the first time sat in my lap to watch. The dentist office is very child friendly. She really liked getting her teeth cleaned and was very positively responsive to the dental hygienists requests (such as, open your mouth really wide
or would you help me out by turning your head this way?) but I think the way she was talked to in such a respectful manner played a big role in how well the experience went.

4 for DS1 and 3 for DS2. They've been having regular cleaning ever since. DS1 has multiple cavities and two crowns, DS2 has perfect teeth. I have no idea why the difference. In fact DS1 likes to eat vegetables and drinks only water and milk. DS2 eats no vegetable and drinks juice all the time. Just individual difference I guess. DS2 is in general healthier than big brother and seems to heal faster from illnesses. Makes me wonder if I should try a bread, juice and meat diet.
