How on earth are you getting stains out?

Help!

We are finally transitioning to cloth, and I have looked through the resources, through the archives, everywhere, and I am still having trouble getting stains out.

I know my little bf dd's mustard-yellow poo isn't the mustard-yellow staining poo out there. So what is your secret? I haven't tried the sun yet (think rainy, cloudy upstate NY) but what are your actual laundering secrets?

A cold soak usually does the trick for us. That or the sun.

I always do a cold soak with just the poopy diapers, rinse, refill with hot water and a lttle tide, add the pee diapers and wash! I was getting stains before I perfected my wash routine, but now even the stained dipes are fading
I never get stains any more, and I do not line dry. My bleached prefolds still look new...HTH

Sun!

I'm sorry, that may not be much help to you, I grew up in upstate NY! But we live in New Mexico, and it's my number one stain remover!

But cold soaks with a tsp. of baking soda help. And with BF poops, even if the first wash doesn't get it out completely, it will usually fade in subsequent washes.

A cold overnight soak with a bit of Tide and maybe 1/4 cup washing soda.

I do sun, though, when availalble, and I will soon pull out my winter stain buster system (plant gro light), which is actually pretty effective. I put the wet dipes underneath the gro light and leave them there until I remember. I have also found that flouescent light can fade stains.

if a cold prewash w/baking soda doesnt do it, the sun works.

those breastfed poops really can stain--i feel your pain!!!
