Here is my history. I have 5 children, 7 pg. I have a history of pulmonary emboli, so I am required to take Lovenox during pg, through 6 weeks post partum. My last pg(DOB 11/2/04), ended in an induction after three weeks bedrest due to pre-eclampsia. I was so upset by the last delivery, aside from the induction, I was put on mag sulfate, not allowed to eat, and bed ridden for two days. It was only due to my sobbing and begging that I was able to avoid a catheter, but had to use a bedpan
: .

Anyway, I realize that the anticoagulant is a given, but how do you prevent preeclampsia? Is there a way? I would love to be able to take back control of my birthing.

On the Pregnant board, they have a thread dedicated to Pre-eclampsia.
It's an interesting topic. Some people feel it can be prevented by diet, etc.. while others feel that there is nothing preventing it.
I'm in the same boat, hoping to steer clear of pre-eclampsia this time.
Good luck to you!!
I'm still going to do my darndest to have a VBAC homebirth.

the med you take Lovenox sort of complicates the picture- increases chances for bleeding during birth. Only you know what risks are acceptable
as far as pre-eclampsia you may be able to do some things to mitigate problems - but it is really a problem starting very early- how the placenta attaches and if the mother/baby spiral arteries are able to entwine and soften so the exchange of oxygen and nutrients can occur without problems- on this level it is Nitric Oxide that relaxes those arteries-- so people who have damage to their micro-circulation are at risk for preeclampsia( this would include women with diabetes before pregnancy), placentas that embed too deeply or to shallowly,pre-existing kidney disease or high blood pressure
so some dietary things that are anti-oxidants often these are the same things that support connective tissue and circulation integrity - like garlic, onions, dark berries, hawthorn, other fresh fruits and veggies
also things that help to keep homocystine levels down are foods rich in
B vitamins and folate.
