I am making felted wool play mats for my boys for Christmas. I actually already finished one. it is for my son's wooden castle. it has a moat and the castle will fit in the middle then i put a cave in the corner. the other one i am making is a farm scene.

so i can't decide if i should just roll them up with a nice ribbon and put them under the tree or should i actually set them up? we already have the castle and farm toys that will accompany these mats but i was thinking for effect, maybe having the farm all set up as well as the castle might be exciting?

what do you think?

TIA!

I would actually think that not setting them up would be better, since otherwise it might look like you were regifting their own toys!

seriously, what a fun creative gift!

Since you already have the toys that will sit on them, I vote for setting them up ahead of time too.

I'm not sure exactly how thick the mats are or how dimensional (if that makes sense). I made DD a felted wool playmat thing for her birthday last year complete with a felted wood boat and peg people family (pics on my blog here). I set up the people and boat on the mat and then draped the whole thing in playsilks. I brought her over to it and let her unveil it.

WOW! that is beautiful! how big is that one? the one i made is about 36" square. I can't figure out how to post pix on MDC or I would post one of the mat the i made. but after seeing yours, not sure if i want to share!

I like the idea of draping playsilks over it.
