we are going to ttc soon and I need to know if I will need a lot of preemie prefolds or if the infants will work okay.

6 lbs 7 ounces going home. the thicker infant chinese prefolds were way too bulky and the premie ones were the right size, but not absorbant enough. I would recommend the thinner infant size chinese prefolds. (4x6x4 ply rather than 4x8x4.)

Parker was 8#4oz and could have worn preemies for a bit. Bret was 7#15oz and definately could have worn preemies for a couple weeks (probably longer).

The infants fit both as nb's, but were bulky, esp on Bret.

HTH~ Good luck ttc!

DS: 8lb9oz - could barely snappi infant PF. Didn't own preemie prefolds for him.

DD: 9lb10oz - wouldn't snappi, just folded PF into thirds. Preemie prefolds didn't have enough oomph for her, so I tucked them into my bra for nursing.

DD was 8lbs even, but dropped down to 7lbs 9oz by 2 days old. We used preemies for about 3 weeks, infant 4x8x4's were very bulky for on her for the first month. She was about 9.5lbs at one month. Next time (if there was going to be a next time) I'd get preemies, and the 4x6x4 infants.

My DS was 10 lb 0 oz at birth and I wish I'd had preemie PF's-- infant size were very bulky on him until 2-3 weeks or so. So I guess it's more about the build of your baby (he was long and lean, not fat at all) than on his/her weight.

M - 7lb 8oz
T - 6lb 7oz
J - 7lb 2 oz
T - 5lb 8oz (early labor)
E - 4lb 12oz (emergency c-section-early)

All of mine could fit into preemies for a little while (some obviously for longer than others
) I could use infants on them as well...but for the smaller ones I really didn't like the extra bulk on a newborn - especially when trying to work around the healing umbilical stump
Not too much help huh lol

8lb-6oz for my ds and he used infant sized almost from the beginning. I had a stash of tushies sposies for the first week or so until the meconium stage was over and by that time they were fine. I knew that preemie would have fit for a couple of weeks but I didn't want to buy something that would only be needed a very short time.
Addie was only 6lb 9 oz and I used hourglass dipes at that time but she would have fit into infant sized as well, a little bulky, but hey it doesn't last forever!

7-4 and the infant prefolds were a bit bulky but worked okay once we got used to the bulk. She wore them until she was around 5 mos. old.

Ds was 7lbs 10 oz and wore preemie prefolds for a couple of months, I think (didn't keep close track). He is almost nine months old now (probably 20lbs or so) and I'm still using infant cpfs for him. Snappis haven't worked for a long time, but trifolding is nice and easy. These days he wears an infant cpf with a preemie cpf as a doubler. It's about time to move up to premiums, but they just seem so huge to me! I'm not big on bulk.

I think it depends on what you do with your prefolds. We trifolded into a wrap. Though the infant sized (we never had preemie sized) seemed HUGE on my 6lb9oz squirt, they worked. If you plan to snappi it might be a different story. We use Regular 4/6/4s now on my 22 lb 19 month old. They still work well folded the "wrong" way in a wrap, but unless I use the bikini twist I can't get them to fit around her big buddha belly when we snappi.

On the other hand, we have a playgroup friend whose son was just a bit bigger than our dd, and they have used premiums from the get go...granted their ds looked like her was all diaper for about the first 6 months of his life.

DD was 9 pounds. We used infant pfs on her for the first 3 months then moved up to premuims. I don't know if premies would have fit her. On a side note I have found the easiest way to distribute the extra diaper is in back not in front, much less bulky that way.

Mary-Grace was 8lbs 13.5ozs at birth and could wear a preemie PF but it was like a bikini on her. She wore infant CPF from birth to about 5 months. She now wears the premium size at about 20lbs.

4-14 and 5-1. They wore infant from the start, although it was super bulky for the first few months. I just folded them and laid them in a cover.

The next was 8-6, but she didn't start in cloth until a few months ago.

Edited to add: we are still using primarily infant prefolds, the premiums are saved for night-time and trips out.

11 lbs. 10 ounces, still using our infant prefolds at 7 weeks.
The only problem we have now is covers
:

On a side note, our kissaluvs fit fine from birth, I was worried about them not fitting or that we wouldn't get much use out of them but we're still using them as well.
