check your cervix in the last months of pregnancy?? Do I just have exceptionally short arms or something? I can't get around my belly to even get <b>close</b> to checking it!!<br><br>
I don't really feel like there's an urgent need to check myself, but it would be interesting to be able to feel the changes. I always enjoyed noticing the differences in my cervix while ttc and using nfp.<br><br>
I'm just wondering how I can be the only one who can't reach around my belly, lol. Any tips??

I think it's easiest if you check from the time your belly isn't in the way and keep going till the end. Then, it's not a sudden jump from TTC checking to end of pregnancy checking... just my experience.<br><br>
Um, let's see, I used to be able to feel my cervix by putting one leg up in the shower on the edge of the tub. Now, I have to put a leg up on my bathroom counter or my (tall) bed. It helps to do it in the morning after getting up, because the baby belly is still relatively smaller than at night.<br><br>
Your cervix is most likely still posterior, so it might feel like the side of your vaginal walls instead of the side of your cervix. You'll probably have to find the cervix and then track the center more toward your back.<br><br>
And, I do think there's something to be said about some bodies not letting you check. Sometimes I think our bodies really know best and prohibit us from messing with it if it's important.

I have short arms AND small hands <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/smile.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="smile"> I can do it squatting or with a leg up. Like if I siton the toilet (lid up) and put my foot on the side of the tub. Or stick my foot up on a bed or the tub or toilet. I stillhave to squat downa little. Last night I was trying to show my DH where my cervix is. He hit it and was sort of interested that he found it. It CAN be done! It just might be a little hard to do with e big belly. Creativity is key <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/smile.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="smile"><br><br>

I do it by sitting on the toilet. If you can wipe yourself, you can check your cervix, you just need to be at the right angle. <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/wink1.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="wink1"><br>
I can do it from the front when I'm seated on the toilet, I just kind of bend my arm around the side of my belly, but I usually need to use more than 2 fingers to feel.

"Heh, I have NEVER been able to find my cervix. I figured I just had really short arms and maybe a long vaginal canal."<br><br>
Do you know what you're looking for? Er, do you know what you are *feeling* for? Heck, if I get really creative with a mirror, a light and some squatting or nearly contortionistic positioning, I can see it.<br><br>

I have never had problems checking when doing nfp, or early in pregnancy, but was NEVER able to reach it later in pregnacy. My cervix was so posterior that even my dr had to push really hard and reach all the way back to find it then when I made him check because I couldnt find it at all. my fingers just wer not long enough no matter what postion i forced myself into. I think some bodies are jsut designed different than others

when I checked myself my arm was along the side of my belly not reaching around the front-- I also checked while on the toilet with a leg up or squatting in the tub

Thanks for all the responses! It was both nice to hear that I wasn't the only one having trouble, and also good to hear some ideas for positioning. I gave it another try using some of the suggestions here and lo! and behold! there IS a cervix in there! I can hardly believe how mushy and soft and open and DIFFERENT it feels. Our bodies are so amazing!

Yeah, Kelli - isn't it sooo different!?!? It's like if you don't keep track of it, it's hardly recognizable! Our bodies REALLY are amazing! <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/nod.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="nod">

Feeling dumb....what does it mean when your cervix is posterior? What should it feel like as it progresses? Does it get easier to reach? Softer? More slippery? What does it feel like when it's effacing or dilating? I too find the whole thing fascinating, but I'm feeling really ignorant.
