I'm due on 2/20; I have a scheduled c-section on 2/27. I am quite concerned that I will actually still be pregnant on 2/27 and would like very much to go into labor before that. With my first daughter, I was 3 weeks late. Anyone have tips for how to bring it on? I'm now 38 weeks.

Things that didn't work last time:
Sex
Eating eggplant
Vigorous walking

Any other ideas/help?

Well, it may be different for this one! I'd try the three "hots": Hot food (maybe go out to eat at some fantastic Italian place that serves a wicked arrabiata sauce!) , hot bath and hot sex (meaning by hook or by crook, you need to have an intense orgasm! Easier said than done, right?). Walking stairs, doing some type of housework that is on your feet and moving (vacuuming), sitting for a while and chatting with the baby. Barring that, maybe talk to your doctor about how that particular time frame is stressing you out? It sounds as though you would really prefer not to have the section. I'm not too sure of your situation, but if you are having these feelings, they're there to be explored!

If there isn't a medical reason for not doing so, I would explore the cohosh teas, but get some good advice from someone who understands your medical history first.

Acupuncture worked for me last time! I actually went into labor right on the acupucturists table. I've met at least 4 other mamas who used acupuncture to bring on labor and it worked for each of them, too.

do you want to go into labor and then have the c-section? Or labor and deliver vaginally???

Either way....start using Evening primose oil now to help ripen your cervix.

Some have also used castor oil with success, though I'd caution it's use.

Nipple stimulation.

Sex always works for me, but you gotta do it right . Lay there afterwards so the semen can sit on the cervix and do nipple stim while you lay there. If I do that twice in a day I go into labor (but I am always 2 weeks late by that point).

Oh, or have a really good cry. Releases hormones. I mean like a crazy lady crying not this-is-a-sad-movie cry.

What does it mean to "use" primrose oil? Eat it? Rub it on myself?

The section is now scheduled 10 days out. I'm not thrilled at all about a c-section. I had one with Baby 1, and I am in mainstream MD care - which is what insurance will cover at this point. Mainstream MDs are freaks about me (almost 40, prior c-section, big baby, and apparently a malformed uterus that isn't shaped right). Still, I'd like to try to deliver vaginally if I can.

Sex. Oh dear. So unappealing. I'll try the acupuncture. What about Red Raspberry Leaf tea? What is the scoop on that?

EPO can be taken orally and/or applied vaginally--pierce the capsule with a pin and insert it as you would a vaginal suppository (like for a yeast infection) before lying down for bed. Wear a pantyliner or pad, though, as it can get messy.

RRL tea is a "uterine tonic" and not likely to bring on labor. It works best if you drink it throughout pregnancy, starting at least by the halfway point (20 weeks).

Black/Blue cohosh are other possibilities, but I would recommend consulting with someone who is knowledgeable about the use and side-effects before trying them.

Just because the surgery is scheduled doesn't mean you have to show up. It's not like they can go ahead without you.
