My son is 18 months old, and other than check-ups from my midwife for about six weeks after his birth, he has never been to a medical professional. He has always been very healthy and seems to be developing fine in every area, so I haven't bothered to take him to a doctor for any reason. However, I am considering taking him in for some kind of well-baby exam, just to make sure there's nothing I'm missing.

He has never had any vaccinations. I just personally know too many people whose children have had serious complications related to vaccinations, and I don't want that to happen to my son. I think we are planning to wait a little longer and then vaccinate very selectively.

My question is, how do I find a pediatrician who will not hassle my husband and me regarding our decision to delay vaccinating? I am in Portland, OR, and have Regence Blue Cross Blue Shield insurance.

I got a rec for a family practitioner from FYT and then I called up the office and asked if they accepted unvaccinated kids. When the receptionist said "Well, of course!" as if I'd asked something bizarre like "Do you see children with brown hair?" I figured it would be fine. And it was. Good luck!
