Mom just left after visiting us for a week and, wow, how did I not notice her comments before????<br><br>
When we were watching tv, they showed some children in India... she said "I just love their skin color." Same thing when we see someone who's African-American... "I just love their hair. I'd love to go up and touch it." Weird. I don't even know how to respond -- it <i>feels</i> racist to me, but it's subtle enough that I'm sure she'd deny it if I confronted her on it.<br><br>
Am I too sensitive? Or too wimpy for not calling her on it? Not sure how to handle it... but I'm sure it will come up again, so I'm looking for input...

Perhaps she is actually curious and did not grow up around many people of color?

Can you ask her what she likes about it? Maybe her answer will lead you to what you feel like asking next.
