My husband, daughter, and I are feeling a bit cramped in our queen sized bed. After reading the post on the co-sleeper, I won't be getting one of those. Dr. Sears mentions a crib sidecar... taking one side off the crib and putting it next to and level with the bed. Has anyone tried this? How did you secure the crib to the bed? Was there a dangerous crease between the two matresses? Did your baby like it?

Thanks!

We took off one side of our crib - the side that shifts up and down - placed the crib against the wall, then moved our full-size bed flush against it. The space between the crib and our mattress was filled quite easily with the body length pillow I used to sleep with when pregnant.

We're doing fine with this arrangement.

Good luck.

We've done a similar thing with a toddler bed with siderails raised to the level of our bed. I just had an extra blanket filling the gap. DS loved it! I think a crib would probably work a little better because it would have higher sides which have less risk of a little napper waking, standing, and toppling over. Next time around we're going to make a custom toddler bed with higher railings... we just made do with a borrowed one this time.

I also use my child's crib in that fashion. I didn't know it had such a cute name (sidecar), it's just what worked for us. I didn't take down the rail, however. We have a tall bed and it lines up pretty evenly with our bed, having the rail down. We put two king sized pillows in between. He usually doesn't sleep in the crib, though, but it's nice to have the crib there because when he is in the bed then we put the rail back up (and keep the pillows there) to use as a railing. He is not mobile yet so this works for now and I love it.
