Someone in a local parenting group was asking for book recommendations for infant care. Someone actually said their two "must have" books were Babywise and the Sears' Baby Book. I didn't think that was possible. I just don't even understand how that happens. Have you ever encountered someone like this? I just wonder what their parenting style must be like.

Maybe they are writing a book on opposites and that is some of their research material? Yin and yang? Anti-venom? Anti-dote?

Maybe they were trying to be ironic? Witty? Funny? That is a bizarre combination of books to reccommend to somebody, for sure!

Eww. I'm scaring myself with the possibilities of what their parenting approach might be.

I've never read Babywise but I've heard how terrible it is here. I've also heard, here on MDC, that there are a couple good ideas in the book. Again, I don't know what they are but I know I glean information from several books and don't follow any one philosophy to the letter. Who knows? It does sound like an oxymoron, though.

LOL, this discussion came up on my moms night out. Many of the moms had read Baby Wise and weretalking about how they really picked out parts, like feeding a lot durring the day and letting baby sleep at night, teaching baby to go to sleep without rocking/being nursed to sleep but then had they read sear's book and took advice from there. When they mentioned Baby Wise first my mouth dropped. They all know I am AP so some of them know how I would react. Though this is a main stream moms group, many cloth diaper, baby wear and extend breast feed.
