I have a 13 1/2 month old and am 8 months pregnant. After i have this baby i DO NOT want to get pregnant for at least 3 years.

I dont believe in hormonal birth control or anything like that so my only option is the Fertility Awareness Method, i bought Taking Charge of your Fertility and have read it 1 time and am gonna read it again, but i am so freaking out that it wont work and im gonna have like 20 kids....

It is like any birth control--it is excellent if you do it properly, and sucky if you don't. I know a lot more Pill babies than I do NFP babies.

Keep your TCOYF book for reference for a LONG time. I've been practicing FAM/NFP for four years and I STILL reference the book at least once a month. Some answers I just can't find easily online.

I agree with Sabra, just like any other BC - good if you use it correctly, terrible if you do not!

If you're using a barrier during your fertile time, it's only as effective as the barrier your use. If you abstain the chance of pregnancy is lower. The chance of pregnancy is pretty small either way. oh and I agree about taking a class. I think it would have been easier if I'd taken a class.

It's worked great for my family, both to get pg and to avoid. I agree with the PP - if you're using condoms during your fertile period, keep in mind that they have about a 15% failure rate (vs. abstaining, which, if you're following all the rules, is about 98% effective if I remember correctly).

And, I'd recommend using the 'optional' sign of cervical position in addition to CM and temps. I've always liked having that additional information, and it can't hurt if you really don't want to get PG. Good luck!
