I WAH full-time opposite of DH's schedule so I don't have to utilize daycare. I'm also a part-time student but all of my coursework is online. I'm starting to look into regular volunteer positions (like once a week for 2 or 3 hours) that will assist me when I go to apply for my Master's program. So there are times where I could really use a babysitter on occasion. Our family members are the only people that ever watch DD but they live 40 minutes away from us so it's not very feasible when I need someone for just an hour or two here and there.

We don't go to church and DD isn't in any playgroups. She goes to gymnastics class once a week and we go to story time at the library but that's it for now until she will be entering preschool this fall. I'm at a loss of where to even look for a babysitter. We just moved into our neighborhood in January so I have only even met 2 of my neighbors so far & neither of the ones I've met have kids so they wouldn't have any recommendations. Any suggestions??

Have you tried the local tribal area on the forums? You can post there and see if any one has local recommendations? I know that were I live there are agencies you can call. I know people who have gotten referrals from people at LLL meetings.

When I was a nanny I was hired off craigslist quite often, but now that I'm a mom that kinda makes me nervous.

Hope that helps!

Do you have a local college with early childhood major's? I found mine at the college I attend. She even lives in the same area as me.

Any colleges nearby? We have a social work school and they actually publish a list of people with their schedules who are willing to sit.

Ask EVERYONE you meet - co-workers, bank tellers, checkers at the grocery, friends, those neighbors without kids. Let them know you are in the market and network, network, network.
