What was your first experience with cloth diapers?

Mine was when I was a daycare teacher years ago, some of the kids were in cloth (probably Kushies), and I remember this one boy in particular that had the diapers with velcro, and I thought "WOW, this is sooooo cool!!"
And since then I knew I would want to CD.

I had an intrest in them while I was pregnant with Kyler. BUT MIL swore up and down that they are the worse things, you dont want to deal with washing poo & pee all day. So I opted for sposies at first. Long story short..lol! I dont care what MIL thinks anymore (shes a very over powering women, took a long time to stand up to her) and Kyler is CD. Now my intrest is HUGE, thanks in part by you ladies
I've started sewing Kyler his own AIO's..fitted & opening my own store at the end of August *has fingers crossed*

I knew I was interested in cloth diapers when I was pregnant with Boo - I knew that we simply could NOT afford to use disposable diapers.

My first dd was 6 months old and I was frusterated with our disposies leaking. I went to the ParentsPlace Diapering board to ask for help, suggestions on a different brand of disposie, etc. and read all about CDs- I told my family that there was something seriously wrong with all those women who were obsessed with diapers (!) and got hooked within a month

When I was young my mom told me about the gel chemicals and about how many tons of waste each disposable diapered baby puts in the landfill. I was horrified as a girl and knew I wouldn't be doing that. I didn't think about a second longer, but then when I was pregnant and shopping for baby clothes I started to remember the diapering issue and read what disposables cost from birth to potty training and that sealed my already tight decision not to use disposables and knew the cost issue would convince my DH even if the environmental impact or the health issue wasn't enough. I spent hours reading about modern day cloth diapering on the net last summer and bought a whole stash on ebay of C-R-A-P. My nikky covers leaked, my diaperaps leaked, my WAHM fitteds were horrendous quality, my prefolds were bulkier than anything I could even imagine putting on a little baby, my Happy Heinys fit all wrong and poo blew out the legs and they leaked too (I didn't know about solids being better), and I had no idea about washing them and used a full amount of liquid detergent in my front loader and washed the diapers with regular laundry.
:

Then I bought some growing greens one-size diapers from Ashley, WAHM of baby greens, that I only was able to justify spending because I was getting 10 for 90 dollars INCLUDING shipping to FINLAND, and some Lanas and Stacinators from Jen at Cotton Babies for a reasonable price and shipping, and I was thrilled at such high quality and that the wool was finally keeping everything dry. Then I ordered a dozen sugarpeas and 11 SOSs from ebay and Suzie herself, and more wool, and..... well that was 7 months ago and my spending hasn't even started to slow down yet.

OK long rambly story--sorry!

I came across a Mothering magazing that was all about cosleeping, something I was doing with DS and feeling really guilty about. Well, the babe on the cover looked SO MUCH like my DS! And he was in a CD and I thought it was really cute. I explored all the sites listed in ads in the magazine and ended up getting a prefold/bummis package from Katies Kisses. So I discovered Mothering and CDs at the same time!

My first experience was wearing them! My brother and I were too sensitive for DDs, so my mom had to CD and I remember her telling me about that. Later I became sensitive to environmental issues and horrified by the impact of diapers. My first adult experience was a woman in my former church. I worked in the nursery and while she would usually do the prefold and pins thing, when she wanted us to change him she would include an AIO. I thought that was pretty nifty and figured I could do that. When I was pg. before my m/c, I started looking into it and mentioned it to my dh and he was incredibly in favor, which shouldn't have surprised me since we are the only ones I know IRL that recycle in a small apartment where we have to drive our stuff to the center.

Well, I went to a LLL meeting and this girl had her son in just a tshirt and a wool cover. The thing was ENORMOUS though, he had a HUGE butt. I was totally turned off by this enormous, bulky butt.

That night, we ran out of wipes, and dh got some cheapo dollar tree wipes because we were low on funds. I ended up breaking out in hives head to toe from the wipes. In desperation I used some washcloths we had on hand for that night. I thought, HEY, this isn't bad!

Then I thought, well, if I'm washing the wipes, I could probably try diapers.... I called a friend who had formerly cd'ed and borrowed her stash for a few days and tried everything out and never looked back!

That was October....

I belong to another board where quite a few members use cloth diapers. I quickly became interested and read everything they posted, because I didn't know anyone who used cloth IRL. I didn't even know it was an option. So before I even became pg, I had accumulated a lot of information about CDs, and really wanted to use them. When we got pg, I told DH very early on that I'd like to use cloth. I think he might have hesitated for a few minutes, until I presented him with all of my research into economic, environmental and health benefits. Then he was hooked, and we've never looked back!

Dh and I were both cd'd as infants. I used sposies on Anwyn the first few months, but I was grossed out by the gel balls that were all over Anwyn. I started asking about cds on another board and was given some awesome recommendations, so here we are.

I joined a different board a couple of years ago to learn about all things baby and stumpled inthe the Cloth diapering thread. I actually went there to laugh at everyone and think about how crazy they were. Turns out I got really interested and started doing research and posting more in that thread. Then I went to Ebay and bought a few Fuzzi Bunz, 1 doz CPF's, and a couple of covers. Turns out I was really happy with the FB's and they were so easy to use, then I found MDC and it's just gotten better. I can't even imagine not CD'ing now!

When I was first pregnant, I was a parenting online junkie. Never really used the internet, except for legal research, before that, LOL
I read about them, saw pics, and thought they were cool.
I was also weary of the chemicals in disposables!
My Bradley instructor used cloth, so she raved about them, and she had a handout about the chemicals in disposables, which was yucky! My DH was totally for it based on the savings, especially since we want a big fam, and we can reuse these.
I started out with prefolds and non-fancy PUL.
I am still using prefolds, but now I use wool.
I can't explain it to non-cloth users, but you all will understand, I just love it! I love how fluffy and soft my prefolds are when they come out of the drier. I love that he has natural fibers on his bum. I love how cute the wool is on him. I love that it is breathable. I just love them-I even like washing them! If you were to go back in time and tell me at, say 16, that I would be a cloth diapering mama, I would have said, "Um. Yeah right. Whatever. "

Well, with my first son I learned all I could about bf and with my second I thought I would try cding. I got online to order my first batch of newborn diapers (HH and prefolds) when ds1 woke up. I walked into his room and found him covered head to toe in gel

I got back on the computer and order a full package in the larger size. Paid for extra quick shipping and never turned back.
