This supports the theory that Bushco WANTS us to be dependent on foreign oil, and that the war in Iraq was to keep oil prices from getting too low (thus cutting into profits.)
Yet another case of "NIMBY". (not in my backyard)
They've had similar problems here in the UK with people complaining about proposed windfarms interfering with their "view". What is your view going to look like if we keep raping and polluting the earth at this rate? I would love to look out and see windfarms!

ETA: there are some side effects for the fishing industry and ocean life as well from off shore windfarms, that aren't always publicised.

U.S. Sen. Ted Kennedy of Massachusetts, a leading Democrat, also opposes it....On a clear day, the windmills would be visible from many of the area's resort homes, including the Kennedy family compound in Hyannisport six miles away.
Glad to hear Kennedy is looking out for the himself, rather than the planet.

Mmm hmm - when they had the "story" about those effects on the local news it went something like this:

fisherman: It's going to throw fishing families into ruin if you put a windfarm there because it will cut back our catch , sort of ... well you see we overfished that area - so now we aren't allowed to fish there but the fish are breeding so ... one day we may be able to fish there again ( *heard only in my head - until we overfish it again) so you better not build wind farms because it would make us lose ... some... uh .. possible fishing in the future. But it will ruin us now.. somehow.

Now I have nothing against fishing/ fisherman/ etc but the argument was not thought out well. The story was supposed to show that people weren't opposed to it ONLY for the blocked views.

ETA: I do agree that there can be other side effects that should be addressed.
