Unfortunately, a lot of our PG probs fall under the TMI category but you gotta be able to tell someone. I feel bad for you, I have very small ones & they can be annoying (I know they're small but even those feel too big). I hope they don't get any worse, then again I'm taking so much iron for anemia I feel like I'm being ripped apart every time I take a poop.

These threads always terrify me because I wonder at the progression. So, at what pregnancy did they get super-huge? I'm on my second one and so far so good. Nothing *ahem* that I have to push back up yet but will they get huge during the birth? Yikes! I don't think a bunch of grapes hanging out of my butt sounds like very much fun....:

ugh. i feel your pain. 2 weeks ago i one bad bm an gave myself the worst giant roids. and they were soooo pianful. they are finally in the past few days almost gone but it has been 2 weeks. i've been *really* careful about what i eat. lots of fruits and veggies and no french fries

my worst fear was going into labor and already having a 'pain in the rear'. they're just so uncomfortable!! and i think it is harder for them to get better when there's so much pressure and weight from being pregnant.

i'm sure i'll get horrible ones during the birth and that is my biggest fear i have big plans to 'hold my butt' while pushing. if i can even reach it

i hope yours get better. i tried witch hazel and prep h. and i read hydrocortizone cream can help shrink them. also i have read about shredded potatoes but haven't tried it.

I have them too but they aren't gigantic yet. I have a whole "bum kit" to combat them. I still have nightmares about what DS's birth did to my bottom. The scary part is that I didn't have any roids before he was born, this time around I'm starting with some small ones. Bottom balm and witch hazel pads have been helping a bit.

i have to say i am wicked all set on shredded potatoes anywhere near my keister my ob gave me some hydrocortisone suppositories to stick up there and it's a bit of a relief. my doc also told me last time around that roids are like icebergs, you only see 10% of them: anyway i've had them since my son was born 12 years ago and they've progressively gotten worse...i'm so lucky

I'm there with you too!
mine have been flaring up and down- last week i got a bit of diahreah...OMG's I was in so much pain for a bout 4 days I could barely sit. I told my midwife the other day "never mind the "perenium support" you just hold those hemrhoids in for me!!!" ...we had a good laugh!!

I agree with the above comment. Perinium support can make a big difference on the after affect of birth with the roids getting worse. I have had them off and on the pg. My last one I had thrm so bad that I could only stand or lay down. I also gave in and used a hydro-cortisone cream which worked wonders for some shrinking and almost immediate relief. I feel for you mama! Hope you are feeling bettter soon!

I feel for you! I have been there...not too bad this pregnancy, but my first it was worse than grapes, it was brazil nuts, I kid you not! And I could barely walk, and they bled...and my MW was concerned and she said she needed a doc to look and me who at that point had never been to a male doc in my life, had to meet a very handsome OB who inspected them! I was so embarressed and I blushed bright red!

In any case, they got me some suppositories that were handmade from a compound pharmacy (they were actually called rectal rockets, believe it or not) you needed to keep them refrigerated and they were delivered on dry ice. They helped. Then of course, lots of water, fiber etc...wiping with baby wipes (but don't flush them) helps. Some people swear by those Tucks wipes too.

This time around I've only had a couple of minor episodes and prep H has done the trick. A little bath in epsom salts migth help too...Because of the difference I've had in the two pregnancies I am convinced we have limited control over this...gosh, I hope yours gets better, I know it can be INCREDIBLY uncomfortable and painful!

Feel better soon!
Nettle leaf can help... I have both hemmerhoids and vulvar varicosities (basically exactly what it sounds like, varicose veins of the vulva) and drinking nettle leaf in my RRL tea has helped tremendously! I might have one or two times a week where either bothers me now. It used to be almost constant.

I believe it has something to do with circulation and helping the arteries to move blood through them or something. And now I can't remember where I read it. But I'm glad I did!

A sitz bath is a soaking basin for your bottom. It also has a hose connected to an IV bag type thing so you can fill it with liquid and spray your bottom clean. They usually give them out in the hospital after birth. You can put some herbs into the bag and let your bottom soak in them for a while to help shrink the roids. Witch hazel is what they use in the hemmrhoid pads, so maybe adding that to the water will help?

Good luck, I hope it works!

you can also do a sitz bath by putting epsom salts in your bathtub and only filling it a few inches with warm water. the epsom salts are supposed to help shrinkage. i bought epsom salts last time i went to the grocery store for postpartum

hydrocortizone can shrink inflamed tissues.

i'd be nervous about getting them lanced so close to giving birth but i know how painful they can be. mine were keeping me up at night a few weeks ago.

also if you are continuing to have hard BMs they're going to be aggravated. when i had a bad flareup early in this pregnancy i took dulcolax stool softner for a few days just to make sure that any pooping would be a gentle affair

well i went to the er today and the doc there told me that one was a regular roid but the other one is a thrombosis! after he stuck his finger in my ass mind you...sorry gross i know.he told me to continue using my suppositories and gave me some lidocaine jelly which only takes the bite off for a few minutes but what can i do? i'm using a sitz bath too which quite frankly makes no sense to me b/c he said not to sit to long on the toilet but the instructions said to use ot for 15-20minutes 4xday,and he also told me that if they don't shrink down in 2-3 days i need to go see a surgeon and have it drained oh my poor bum!!! at this point i'm actuaaly looking forward to my c-section so i will be numb
btw, where do i find the nettle leaf?

Nettle leaf tea you can kind anywhere that sells bulk tea. Whole Foods has it. I get it at a local co-op because it's cheaper. You might be able to find it in capsule form too if you don't like tea. Or if all else fails you can call an herbalist. It's worth it!

If you are far from a natural foods store, I have used this web store a few times:

http://www.mountainroseherbs.com/

Depends how long it will take you to get to a real store that sells herbs... It sounds like you need relief right away.

I wonder if the sitz bath is okay (vs "too much" time on the toilet) because the water offers some buoyancy to your bum versus letting it all hang through the opening in the toilet...
