A sixth grade boy was given an award as being the member of his class least likely to have children. The parents complained and have not gotten very far...

Anyone else experience something like this? I was voted most likely to be the first woman president. This is something else. It is not nice.

I couldn't pull up the link, but I just wanted to say how awful. Frankly, I don't like these types of awards even when they aren't insulting and I received some "nice" ones when I graduated from high school. IMO, they should be abolished.

At our school (I am a teacher), they were planning on a fiesta for the seniors during which they were going to be giving out humorous senior awards for which they asked the teachers to vote in advance. Some of the awards were fine, like, "Most likely to be the president," or "Most likely to be Bill Gates," but others were very questionable: "Couple that should NOT have been," or "Most in need of a haircut," but the one that really got me was, "Most likely to be on an episode of Cops."

I went to the teacher who was organizing it and pleaded for her PLEASE to reconsider how inappropriate some of these were, especially the last one. I also brought up how unhappy -- and angry -- the parents of a child might be at the Cops episode "award."

To her extreme credit, she immediately struck them out. It was the end of the year, basically, and she'd been overwhelmed with the far worse ideas her student council had suggested, and she just hadn't seen it from that perspective. Good for her.

Whew.

This is awful!
How can you expect decent behavour from the children when you can not recieve it from the teachers!
All I can say is we, as parents should not let them get away with behaviour like this and always check very well in what kind of school we are putting our children in!!!

Wow! My heart breaks for the poor boy. I'm glad the parents aren't letting go of it.

I had a nice award for such a ceremony in 7th grade at my all-girls school. It was put together by the students with minimal involvement from the teachers. But I remember one girl, who was fairly popular, was given the unflattering "Miss Thunder Thighs" sash. She was humiliated. I really don't know why schools allow such "awards" to be given out.

Sir Clowns-a-lot (his other title) is bad enough (but perhaps understandable) but what the heck is the implication of least likely to have children? Are they implying that's he's gay? Cause he is a really cute kid, so it's not likely that they are saying he wouldn't find a wife.
And if it is that, it's way more than inappropriate, it's bullying bordering on hate speech.
