Does anyone have any advice for a child who is hungry but just won't eat? He's a picky eater, almost 2 years old and his main nutrition is breastmilk (no I'm not happy about this). I honestly wouldn't mind so much that he doesn't eat but the problem is that he's hungry and therefore so extremely fussy. He will eat junk food, of course, but I don't want to get into the habit of that being the only thing he will eat.
We keep food out for him to graze.
We allow him to feed himself if he wants.
We offer different foods as well as his "favorites".
We sit down (ds sometimes joins us) for 3 meals a day and then offer him snacks several times a day as well.

He's too young to understand that he's fussy because he's hungry. there's no reasoning with him.

Any ideas on what I can do differently or things that have worked with your own child?

Are you wanting to wean? I'd encourage you to allow him to countinue nursing you can set 'rules" and limits to make it comfortable and agrreable for both but your BM does provide soo much for him. I have a 3.5 year old with serious food issues. SHe was diagnoised with infant anerexia at 5 months and she had oral (and verbal) apraxia making chewing and swollowing phyisically hard and is in therapy for all the above. Nursing when it was an option for us was on many days a Godsend. (she self weined this past May) Just something to consider
