I was watching Supernany with my kids a few weeks ago and she wanted a child (age 4, I think) to stop using a pacifier. Well, my DD was major thumb sucker - all day and all night for three years she'd have it in her mouth and her front teeth were really starting to move outwards.

After the show I told DD, "Hey, JoJo says you shouldn't suck your thumb. It's bad for your teeth." She pulled her thumb out of her mouth. Over the next day or two I repeated the same phrase maybe ten or twelve times and then DD quit sucking altogether! Hurrah! It's been so nice being able to see her little mouth and understand her when she talks to me with no thumb in her mouth. She was even quieter to sleep with on vacation without the "thack thack thack" I used to hear during the night.

I'll probably get flamed : not only for not being GD enough but for, gasp!, letting DD watch TVC with me - but it was such an easy fix I thought I would share in case it might work for anyone else!
