My son is 2 weeks old, and he was born with a minor hypospadias. It doesn't look like he has any chordee (bending of the penis); I've watched his penis right before he goes pee when it's slightly erect. Looks very straight. He does have a Dorsal Preputial Hood ("The penis skin does not form a normal foreskin around the shortened urethral tube resulting in a hood like effect"), though.
I keep reading that using the extra foreskin (basically circumcision) is the most common way to correct the problem, and this makes me sad because I do not want to circumcise my son. I want to make the most informed decision about this so I was wondering if anyone has any experience with this. Based on what I've read, it looks like his hypospadias is very minor and shouldn't need any treatment, but I want to know more about it before his urology appointment in a week.
Thanks!

Congratulations on the birth of your son. The above link will take you to a recent discussion on Hypospadias. Also, if you put the word into the "search"
box above, you'll get lots of archived discussion. Welcome aboard.
In a minor case like your son's I would not choose elective surgery for him. I would wait until he was old enough to make any decision on his own.

I agree. If it's that minor, I wouldn't bother.
If you do choose for surgery, I'd use skin from other areas since the repair would be so minor.
