Hi everyone.
Just found out yesterday that I have a verrrry low case of hypothyroidism and fortunately my general practioner gave me synthroid to take. I had a physical done if everyone wonders why i just found out..yes my OB/GYN DID NOT take my blood work when i went to talk about fertility issues...he just prescribed femara and did an HSG test...dont ask...wont be going back needless to say to that practice..

Doctor called me back to today with the results from my blood work yesterday and my TSH is 4.470 which is a little over the recommended range and my T4 was 5.3 So he told me to cut my pills in half and only take a half pill for the nexxt 3 months until my next blood work appt...

so my question is...could this low numbers really be causing infertility???? was just wondering and welcome anyones input and thanks in advanced!!!

I would say yes. They usually want your TSH between 1 and 2 for TTC and yours is quite a bit off from that.

Just wanted to let you know I posted about hypothyroidism & infertility a little while back. Sorry I would post a link if I knew how to do it, but I don't. You might be able to find it under my name and previous posts. I'll see if I can find the date and that might help you out some too. My TSH was 6 something and after being on the meds 25mcg for 6wks it's now down to 2.1 (i think it was). Good luck to you!

avaw - "just a little over normal" is not normal! So yes it could well be affecting your fertility. 3.0 is the upper range for TSH, and my Dr. told me that on meds the goal is to get you under 1 if possible.

I've been on thryroid meds for about 2 years (synthroid 100mg) and my numbers were better (around .5) after only 6 weeks... You also might want to get a referral to an Endocrinologist to follow your progress until your numbers are under control.

Good luck

I second this. Endocrinologists are really the best people to be managing the thyroid. It's very different than reproductive endocrinology.

I have an RE and an endocrinologist but if I ever get pg and have a baby, I'll probably switch to my GP for the thyroid management afterwards. But not before. It needs to be managed carefully during pg and I'm assuming pp too.
