wanting to know the baby's sex!!!!!!

im thinking to maybe ask my doc to write it on a piece of paper and seal in envelope and then DB and I could walk around torturing ourselves

(of course i got like 9-10 weeks till we could do that!)

what is wrong with me?!

They have a new test where you can find out the sex of the baby at like 5weeks pregnant. You have to pay $250 for it though. I have a friend who did it when she was 7 weeks pregnant.

Basically your baby starts shedding fetal cells into your bloodstream immediately and they can detect these cells as early as 5 weeks pregnant and determine the sex based on the DNA. You send them a sample of 5 drops of blood and a day or two later they have the results for you.
It was all over the news a couple of months ago because people were talking about the potential for it to be abused, like if a family really wanted a certain sex, then they could selectively abort since you can find out what you are having so early in the pregnancy.

See I would like to know early just so I have time to stock pile boy things if baby is a boy. Cause I have all girl things from DD. That is cool. But that is so wrong that people would abort cause the baby isn't the "right" sex.

oh, i want to know too! i want a girl so bad b/c I think this is my last and I already have a boy. but my hubby wants a boy b/c my son is not "his". Everyone in my family is already taking sides about what we are having, ect..
I am so thrilled to find out, guess I can wait till the 16 wk ultrasound but we are definitely going to have them tell us...
I do know that occasionally they are wrong, tho..

Me too! Me too! Although I have a "feeling" of what the baby is already based off of my last pg. All the same symptoms, or lack there of, must be the same sex. Right?

I'm torn on whether to find out. Leaning toward not...because it was exciting to have that to wonder about in my last weeks of pregnancy last time when I had no peeks before birth. But I'm leaning toward having a 20+ weekish ultrasound this time, to check on placenta and such, and it sort of seems like...why not, if we're already looking.
The blood test thing is pretty cool. Could be a basically risk-free alternative to an ultrasound solely to find out the sex.

Oh, and BensMommy, I had *exactly* the same pregnancy symptoms at the same times with ds and dd, so IME it's not reliable
