I only use it on my diapers. It works good. No buildup. I HATE using it.

I want to use something much more natural. Does anyone use Dr. Bronner's Sal Suds? (Not the castille soap)

7th Generation? Trader Joe's? Mrs. Meyers? BioKleen?

What are the ones I'm not supposed to use?

I hate it because it's made by P&G, one of the most evil companies in existence.

I tried getting away from using P&G anything, but right now I'm using Cheer for everything but the diapers, because I'm cheap. So I still haven't gotten away from P&G evil.
I've heard a lot have trouble with the natural detergents on diapers. Perhaps trying dish detergent on your diapers and switch to a natural detergent for everything else?

Sheena~ Oh, okay. I was wondering if it was a performance problem. I have to admit I use Tide on everything and have for years because it's the only detergent I can stand the smell of.

Vein~ Indeed I did. I still do every one in a very infrequent while.

Not to mention the chemical funk in it.

Does anybody know what Trader Joes detergent actually is? (What I mean is, they put a private label on their stuff, it is most likely a natural detergent brand we all know.)

I am interested in Sal Suds. It's the most natural detergent I know, plus it doesn't have any additives like natural soy based fabric softeners or the like. My 'Clean House, Clean Planet' book speaks highly of it. I'm going to give it a trial run. If its too mild, I may add a smidge of borax.

The key is not to use too much detergent, so I'm going to be careful... off to email Dr.Bronners and ask what they suggest for my FL HE machine....

Yeah, I tried the no detergent and when I opened that dryer, I was NOT feelin' the love. They really aren't stinky or anything but they just didn't smell clean. I'm looking forward to the next washing day.

I use Melaleuca http://www.melaleuca.com Their detergent really is detergent and works great. They have an unscented that I'm wanting to try. A friend gave me some of hers to try and it is working great! I had been using Tide FREE but wasn't too excited about it. Most of their cleaning products are concentrated so it cuts down on environmental waste as well; the cleaning products have no chlorine, phosphates- you know, all the big no no's.

I tried the Bi-O-Kleen Laundry Powder on my dipes and they got stinky. I don't recommend it for dipes. It's great on clothes and smells so yummy- orange oil. There is one brand from TJ's that is definetly soap and should not be used. That is the problem- the natural stuff is soap and leaves a residue.

Im sorry it didnt work for you, it has left my diapers smelling cleaner than ever before. But it is definitely a trial and error kind of thing.

Can I use my Bac Out? It could have just been that I was missing that fresh orange grove smell

LOL, maybe you are missing that smell, LOL.

Did you strip them all also before you tried the bs/TTO wash?

I stripped all mine to prep them and then have been doing the bs/TTO washing and they come out smelling nice and clean and like TTO.

I also only do the TTO in with the baking soda in the hot wash, I feel like the hot water will somehow make the TTO work even better, LOL

So since the way I do it you put the TTO in the hot wash you can always put your favorite smelling oil in the rinse. I am sure orange oil would smell good coming out of the dryer!

I didn't strip them- I guess that would be a good place to start. Did you use the dishsoap method?

I have put the orange oil in with the hot wash and the TTO and it still works. Sometimes when I'm low on Bac Out and feeling cheap I just use the orange oil. It's really the smell I can't do w/o!!

LOL

Well I stripped them with LOTS of baking soda and it seemed to do the trick, like a half a box in a hot wash with no rinses and just wash hot over and over and over until no suds, I ended up using a whole box of baking soda(just one of those normal sided boxes) maybe more and then started my routine after that.

Ive been using Arm & Hammer on my dipes. It seems to be working just fine. I haven't noticed any obvious buildup allthough I occasionally run it through an extra rinse tor two and I use a minimal amount.

As far as Trader Joes goes I want to use it on diapers because it smells wonderful (lavander) but it has a built in soy-based fabric softener so I haven't tried it yet. Anybody else have experience with this? Could I use it once in a while?
