I know this is a whiney post. I came here to check on a thread I started in the Ca/Nv area - since I'm back in San Diego now - but it's late and I was just clicking away and found myself here instead. I guess it's because Oregon really feels like my home.

I miss the farmers market. I miss the neighbors. I miss the kids playing out in the street until the sun goes down. I miss knowing all my neighbors by name. I miss my 6 mile commute into town. I miss the way the air smells. I miss the hiking and the pool. I miss my gym and the day care girls there. I miss my lower cost of living and my higher quality of life. I miss living in a house that I own. I miss having a family of conservative home birthing Christians on one side of the street and a family with 2 lesbian mommies on the other side - mostly living in peaceful coexistance. Most of all I miss having the chance to yell out GOOOOOOO BEAVSSSSSSSSSSS! on a whim.

Only 9 more years until Gary retires and we can move back... I may push for him to try for Bremerton next time he's up for orders... I really miss the PNW. It's amazing that I lived there for 3 years and it feels more like home than San Diego ever did - even though I lived here most of my life.

Whiney post over.

Mely,

I know exactly how you feel. I was in Seattle for 7 years and then got married and moved to Illinois. I really didn't like it at all and thought I would die. I missed the PNW sooooooooooooooooo much. Finally after a year and a half, I had enough and DH knew it. So he got a job in Portland and we're back in the beautiful PNW. Ahhhhhhh the trees, the rain, the mist, the beautiful Summers, the hiking, the wildlife, the salmon...I can go on and on and on and on. Hope you can come visit from time to time while you're waiting to move back HOME!

Funny that you started this thread because I hang out here solely due to being homesick for my PNW. I moved away and lived in FL for three years and have never been so miserable over where I lived in my life! Now we're in WNC, which is enough like OR to stave off the burning desire I had to go home, but I still miss it. The Bigness of it. The Gorge. Rocky coastline. Actual mountains. Yew trees. Ashland. SIGH.

Oh Mamas, don't get me started. We just moved to AZ from WA. And, although I feel like I am exactly where I am supposed to be, it doesn't mean that I don't long for home, for the water, for the friends....ahhhhhh Seattle - I love you so!

I have to come out of lurkdom for this post! I have been in arizona for the past two years after living in oregon for eight. I'm not originally from the pnw, but it was where I got married, where I birthed my first baby, where I grew up and became "me". It is home, that's for sure! I am painfully homesick for Portland every day. There's not one thing I like better about Arizona. So, that being said, we're trying to get back there. Hopefully by the end of the year. It all depends on whether or not the mister can find a good job in his industry.

I have been lurking around the boards lately in preparation for moving back. A number of our friends and acquaintances have coincidentally moved on, as well, so in some regards we'll be starting over from scratch, at least concering the 'people' part of a community. The places part, though, we've got that covered.
