Because I am extended nursing, I cloth diaper, and sling my babe!

Right now my 2 dd's and I are in Mississippi visiting family. We left on Friday and will be returning home on Sunday evening. I am so thankful that I am nursing dd2 as this trip has really made her out of sorts. She is my happy babe who is content but these last few days she has been glued to mommy.

When we arrived here on Friday my family that came to get us from the airport got quite the shock. DD2 was crying in the carseat ( I was sitting right next to her trying to soothe her) and they asked where her bottle was. I said she doesn't take a bottle. They asked where her pacifer was. She doesn't take one. They asked if they needed to stop and get her some juice. I said no she just needs some momma milk I thought they were all going to have a stroke! They then proceeded to lecture me about how she doesn't need "that" any longer. To which I promptly interupted them and said we are going to let dd2 decide when she is ready to stop nursing!

And anytime I nurse the babe my fmaily refuses to look at me! The will not even make eye contact with me. I refuse to hide though. I sit right out there with everyone and nurse her if she wants to!

Good for you and her. I am so happy for you and her that you stood up to them!!

It makes life interesting to be the weirdo. I am the weird on in my family, as work, on the playground, at the playgroup. But in DH family I am normal and it is nice to have reassurance. Although my SIL's are competative and I am not so sometimes they like to embelish things and make it a who's crunchier contest. I opt out and shake my head and laugh as it would be nice to see them comfy in there own skin. Looks like you are!!

Oh, but she NEEDS a bottle or pacifier, huh? You know, I have no problem with a toddler who still uses a bottle or pacifier, but to treat that as the norm and breastfeeding a toddler as the "wrong" thing to be doing as a child gets older always annoys me!

I agree with this- I feel like being the wierdo in my family just means that I have made different choices than most everybody and therefore I must be doing something "wrong". I get so aggravated with that mindset- most of the time people can't tell me why it's "wrong," just that "it's going to cause you problems later on..." Um, okay.

OH....that is soooo good. I will be sure to use that one a year or so from now when my family thinks I am the weirdo. My DS is only 7 months but I am only the third person in a family of ohh...about 25 grandkids to BF...the other two...my sisters...
