I just bought a small, but relatively deep kiddie pool for my birth: http://www.qualityinflatables.com/58480.html

What I'm most thrilled about is that dh actually admitted today that he is warming up to the idea of a homebirth. He came to his first appt. with the midwife on Tuesday and was totally set against it. After discussing everything with her, he's now starting to be keen on the idea.

One of his biggest concerns was that we live in family housing at the university and so our neighbours are close and I was quite loud with my last birth. But, my midwife said that they deliver babies in family housing all the time and she delivered 2 in the last month (turns out one was just across our backyard!).

So, things are looking good. I figure that if I approach the whole thing with the attitude that we'll give it a try and see how it goes. That way, we're flexible, the hospital's not far and I think it will help make dh more supportive.

I haven't figured out how I'll inflate it yet. We have a small battery-operated air pump that I'm hoping will work, but not counting on it. I'm waiting to see what it's like when it arrives. Perhaps I'll get dh to work some muscle and use a hand air pump.

I'm sure the local hardware/sports store will have what's needed (at least I hope) if all else fails.

My husband and I bought the next size up (http://www.qualityinflatables.com/56493.html) also from that site. We got this pump to fill it: http://birthwithsol.com/quelairpu.html

It takes about 10-12 minutes to inflate the large one, so that shouldn't be an issue

I will suggest doing a trial run filling it with water. We found out that between inflating it and filling it with water to the desired water level would take at least 45 minutes. So make sure you keep that in mind.

We gave it a trial run last weekend, and had a kind of hot tub in the living room thing going on... relaxing and watching part of a movie on tv before emptying it out again
