I feel like a total idiot...
:
:

I was making up my first batch of pregnancy tea, so I got this heavy glass pitcher to pour the hot water in to steep the tea bags. I was thinking it was thick enough and the hot water should be fine in it.

So I was pouring the water in and it got close to the top and the whole thing exploded! I mean EXPLODED!!! It went everywhere. Pieces of glass flew like 10 feet.

I don't know how I managed to be so lucky. The last thing I got out of the way was my belly. The boiling water went on it and I have some nasty blisters and swollen red spots. It hurt like heck. I'm so glad dh was home, or else I would have gone crazy. I was bawling and screaming. He came running up and put ice water on it (ouch!) and put Calendula gel on it which helped a lot.

I really hope the baby is okay. I was watching my belly and it looked like she was breathing heavily (I know they don't breathe in there...) because where her back usually is, my stomach was rising and falling just like she was breathing. It lasted a good while, but then stopped. I guess it really freaked her out. Poor thing

I guess I'm just lucky it wasn't worse.

So, you are all probably WAY smarter than me, but don't ever put hot/boiling water in a glass pitcher unless it's Pyrex. Stupid me...

Oh, you poor thing!!!
I'm glad it wasn't worse, and I hope it feels better soon! I'm sure the baby is fine--probably just wondering what the heck is going on with mama and all that noise and adrenaline.

If it makes you feel better at all, I am constantly whacking my belly on things and feeling bad about it -- like I misjudge how much clearance I need to open a door or get up from a table. I feel like in movies pregnant women just instinctively protect their bellies first thing, but that hasn't been the case at all for me!

Anyway, I do hope the burns heal up quickly. Sending you SUCH sympathy!

I am sorry mama!!! I am glad to hear it wasn't worse though.

One day when it was REALLY hot I started cooking dinner in just my bra & undies. Then I stopped & thought...this probably isn't the best idea to have my giant bare belly hanging out over an open flame

Ohhh poor mamma!! Little E was probably wondering what the heck was going on out there and had no clue why you were so upset! I'm sure your belly will heal just fine.

FWIW, Whilst corralling my cat before vacation (to get him to the kennel) a couple weeks ago, he scratched my belly! Bad Hobo!!!!

Thanks everyone
You're all so sweet.

Well, I have a big ol' blister to the left of my belly button. It's painful and stings like heck, but I'm just glad it's not worse. I'm trying to figure out how to take a shower or bath now. It's an open blister (sorry about the grossness) and I probably shouldn't get it wet.

Other than that, things are okay. Dh cleaned up all the glass and all of the things that were drenched with boiling water are drying. I'm really glad I bought calendula gel yesterday!!!

I'm so sorry - I've done this a few times too with the oven door.

if you have any REAL vanilla {not imitation}, pour it on the blister liberally.

Makes it not blister as bad, and takes a lot of the pain out of it too.

Discovered this while trying to learn how to bake @ the age of 12 - I had permanent burns before a friend told me about the wonders of vanilla!

YOu can also use a towel soaked in vinegar and put it on your belly. The vinegar will take the heat out and restore the pH of your skin. When the towel starts to feel warm put it in the vinegar again and wring it out and reapply. This is what we do for ALL burns in our house.

Oh mama, I'm so sorry you had to go through that. That must have just been the scariest thing, it exploding like that! A few weeks ago I burnt my belly on the front of my oven, but it was nothing like you're describing!
